Rangers at Dodgers, 1:10 PM PDT, TV: Bally Sports Southwest, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA
The Rangers send RHP Dane Dunning (2-4, 4.26 ERA) to the hill to face the Dodgers’ RHP Walker Buehler (5-0, 2.56 ERA). Dunning is a rookie who has made four scoreless starts. Buehler hasn’t lost in his last 21 starts.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1957 In a game which features the ejection of Johnny Logan and Don Drysdale, Clem Labine loses for the first time in ten months and 38 relief appearances when the Braves beat Brooklyn, 8-5. The Milwaukee shortstop charged the mound after getting drilled in the ribs by the Dodger right-hander, resulting in banishment for both players.
- 1973 The Dodgers infield, a quartet which will be together eight and a half years, setting a major league record for longevity, plays together for the first time. First baseman Steve Garvey, second baseman Davey Lopes, third baseman Ron Cey, and shortstop Bill Russell are in the lineup in the 16-3 defeat to the Phillies.
- 1998 The first triple play ever completed at Dodger Stadium is turned by Darren Dreifort (p), Eric Young (2b), Jose Vizcaino (ss), and Bobby Bonilla (3b). With Colorado runners on first and second base, the 1-6-4 double play becomes a triple killing when Jamey Wright is thrown out at third base by the LA second baseman, who covered first base for the second out.
- 2010 The Angels, with their first sweep at Dodger Stadium, complete their 14-game road trip with 11 victories, the most for the team on a single trip since 1962. In the 6-5 decision over their crosstown rivals, Halo hurler Jered Weaver strikes out his older brother, Jeff, who came into the game as a long reliever in the third inning, for the first time since they were kids.

RIP my first husband, Ned
Beatty. We were married from 1979-1998. (I was very young, wife #3, and sure we would make it. But not bad, by Hollywood standards.) So many memories… I spent the day today with kids and grandkids, his other prolific legacy.
My condolences, RBI. I confess that all day I confused him with Warren.
Very sorry to hear of your loss. Thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
All three of the Dodgers-Phillies games — Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights — are on MLBTV, unless you are blacked out.
All the games all year are on MLBTV, unless you’re blacked out.
Woo-HOO!!! (Long day… couldn’t even peek.)

Phew, that was a hairy ninth inning.
Three righties scheduled to go for the Phils. Gonsolin, Urias, and Kersh for the good guys.
Giants go home to open a four-game series with Arizona, which has lost 19 in a row on the road.

Phillies coming to town riding a sweep of the Yankees.
Yanquis are actually pretty bad.
One game behind the Gnats. (That one is for you, WBB.)
Whoa! Wow! Whee!
Taylor played brilliantly at second today.
Yes he did.
His glove is golden, but like Quique might not get one because he plays too many positions.
Never in doubt!
Whew!!
Save number 327 for Jansen. He passes Roberto Hernandez and is now tied with Fernando Rodney for 17th all time.
Dodgers win!
I am pacing my study.
That’s it Joe!
Need a makeup call.
Sheesh. Really should not have come down to this.
Bickford may soon be gone.
Done well his previous five outings, but sure as soon as Brustar is ready I imagine.
He has actually been pretty good.
Ohio Dodger: Your point is well taken.
I agree with both your points, Bob.
Pop go the weasels!
Two away!
Great future person!
An out!
Ausgezeichnet!
My horse for two more!
These Texas hitters have been pesky.
Kenley is often not good when he comes in with runner(s) on base.
Indeed, though coming into today he has let no inherited runners score (0 out of 10).
Now 1 out of 12.
I was glad to be (somewhat) wrong.
¡Miércoles!
Rule 1.
This is anxiety-inducing.
I blame Joe West.
And we would prefer ground ball double play inducing…
Son of a ………………..
And now daughter of a…
How ’bout a GIDP?
There was the ball to do it…
Get him out of there Doc.
Kenley not ready yet.
Good Grief.
OK Bick, throw strikes.
SSS, but SO/W ratio of 10.00 that is his usual approach (12.9/9 Ks and 1.3/9 BB).
Ugh.
All over the place.
Joe West needs to help out to end the game sooner.
Yeah, I need a nap.
Squeezed him.
Really squeezed.
Andy burns down the line!
Out by an eyelash. Darn.
Burned.
Not quite a burner…
Zach adding some length to the lineup.
Raley with the speed to recover.
Wow. Where would we be right now without Taylor. He is my MVP to this point.
For me co-MVP with Max.
Works for me.
Let’s tack on some more runs.
Well, one more run…
Slam proof.
You came up with the right tack.
Got lucky. LOL
Given the inauspicious first, a pretty fine outing for Ferris.
Definately.
Ranger catcher smiles at his dugout over Joe West’s strike zone for Pujols.
Pujols-West: a mutual admiration society.
Nice inning for Buehler. Six looking good.
13 starts, 13 6+ innings for Walker this year.
He’s been a rock.
Great stat.
Courtesy of Eric Stephen.
Hopefully Walker can at least get thru 6 innings today.
Good inning!
Raley wheels!
Zach Attack.
Bad situational hitting and worse base-running (Lux shoulda had a double on that popup).
Agreed.
Zach attack!
Zach redemption!
Garcia didn’t learn from Puig to just run over the infielder.
Mookie!
Giants drop to 6-5 in June with their loss. Padres improved to 4-8 this month with their win. The Dodgers are 6-4 in June.
Tootblan
Thanks. I didn’t know what that meant so I looked it up: acronym for Thrown Out On The Basepaths Like A Nincompoop. Great term.
Padres beat the Mets, 7-3. Tatis hit a grand slam in the 7th, followed immediately by a HR by Machado.
Raley hit big at the farm. Let’s see.
Stayin’ alive, at least.
I hope that Raley does better on this trip to the Dodgers. He needs to convince Roberts that he is not overmatched.
Beaty don’t got wheels.
Ball was hit very hard, almost got through. Doubt anybody would’ve beaten that one out.
You are not incorrect, but he wasn’t even in the picture when the throw came to first
When the Rangers’ starter goes grocery shopping, is there a Dunning Kroger effect?
Thanks. I just learned something else:

The Nats just blanked the Glants, 5-0. In their four-game series in D.C., the Giants scored a total of three runs — two of them in extra innings — yet won two of the games. Washington scored eight runs in the series.
Clearly, the Gnats are regressing to the mean. But for the ghost runner in extra innings, they probably wouldn’t have scored at all after the Poseur’s homer on Friday.
I was taken aback by how weak their lineup was for the second game. Their “B” team highlights how they aren’t built for sustained success over 162 games. The Dodgers have thrown out some relatively weak lineups, but those were usually due to injuries and was mostly in the bottom 3-4.
Really weak lineup the whole weekend.
