This series will be played at Petco Park in San Diego. MLB previews the series with possible starting lineups and a whole lot of background information.

The Astros’ pitcher will be LHP Framber Valdez, who is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA this postseason. The Rays send out LHP Blake Snell, who is 1-1 with a 3.38 ERA in this year’s postseason.

There’s a whole lot of baseball history on previous October 11ths. One of the more amusing items is this one:

1975 As the first host of Saturday Night Live, George Carlin compares baseball to football in the opening monologue of the ground-breaking show. The comedian jokes the national pastime a gentler game, portraying the sport as one which is pastoral and played in a park as opposed to football, in which the objective is to march downfield and penetrate enemy territory in a stadium.

    Globe Life Field features a specially designed synthetic grass playing surface that was provided by Shaw Sports Turf with installation completed by Texas-based Paragon Sports Constructors. The choice to go with Shaw Sports Turf was rooted in data, and supported by extensive research as it relates to player safety. The goal was not to only have the highest performing synthetic grass but also to have the highest performing surface for baseball.     Field Dimensions: The distances from home plate to the outfield walls were designed to honor the five Rangers whose numbers have been retired by the club. In addition, the distances in the left field and right field power alleys recognize two early seasons in Rangers’ history.

    Left Field Line: 329 feet (Adrian Beltre’s #29)

    Left Field Power Alley: 372 feet (Rangers’ first year in Arlington–1972)

    Center Field (straightaway): 407 feet (Ivan Rodriguez’ #7)

    Deepest Distance of Park (both left and right of straightaway CF): 410 feet (Michael Young’s #10)

    Right Field Power Alley: 374 (The Turnaround Gang, 57 to 84 wins–1974)

    Right Field Line: 326 feet (Johnny Oates’ #26)

    In addition, there is a distance marker in left field at 334 feet from home plate to recognize Nolan Ryan’s #34. The distance from home plate straight back to the wall of the Field Suites is 42 feet, which honors Jackie Robinson’s #42.
