Rockies at Dodgers, 6:40 PM PDT, TV: ATT SportsNet-RM, SPNLA
RHP Antonio Senzatela (3-1, 3.32 ERA) takes the mound for the visiting Rockies against the Dodgers’ RHP Dustin May (1-1, 2.83 ERA). Senzatela threw seven scoreless innings against the Padres in his last start. Against the Dodgers on August 23 he gave up four home runs in 5 1/3 innings. May has gotten into the sixth inning in three of his last five starts and in his last one he denied the Rangers a home run, the first start since July 29 he’d done so.
Kershaw’s milestone strikeouts:
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1924 The Brooklyn Robins (Dodgers) take a twin bill from the Braves, sweeping their fourth doubleheader in four consecutive days. Between September 1-3, the Brooks beat the Phillies six times.
- 1966 The Dodgers become the first team to draw two million fans at home and two million on the road as 18,670 Crosley Field patrons watch Los Angeles beat their hometown Reds, 8-6.
- 1969 After thirty-one games, the third longest consecutive game hitting streak in National League history ends as Dodger Willie Davis is stopped by Dick Kelley and Gary Ross in a 3-0 loss to the Padres.
- 2017 J.D. Martinez becomes the 18th major leaguer, joining Reds utilityman Scooter Gennett as the second player this season, to hit four home runs in one game when he goes deep in the top of the ninth inning In the Diamondbacks’ 13-0 rout of the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. The Arizona outfielder, who was acquired in a trade from the Tigers in July, has one more home run than the opponent’s total amount of hits.

I am guessing that Kolarek, he of the 0.00 ERA, gets the win. Official scorer’s discretion. You can’t give it to someone who gave up a grand slam, even though he’s the pitcher of record.
Wrong again. Ferguson is credited with the win.
Dodgers had four hits through the first five innings, 11 in the last three. One run through the first five innings, nine in the last three.
My wife, daughter and I watched “Bull Durham” tonight. It stands up well despite having been made 32 years ago. What a different role for Tim Robbins compared to “The Shawshank Redemption.”
“Anything you can do, I can do better.” Also with Howard Keel and Betty Hutton in “Annie Get Your Gun”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO23WBji_Z0
I love musicals.
My favorite is “South Pacific.” And yours?
Sorry – fell asleep there for a few moments.
I don’t have just one fav but a running list:
Les Miserables
Ragtime
Hamilton
Oklahoma
Into the Woods
The Sound of Music
etc etc
An impressive list. We took my daughter to see Ragtime on Broadway when she was young. She has loved musicals ever since. Hamilton was unique and wonderful.
So cool Scoop. I love musicals but haven’t seen that many – only listened to the soundtracks. It’s the equivalent I suppose of listening to Vin on radio but never seeing the Dodgers play on tv.
I still recall watching the Music Man on tv with my dad when I was a kid. I thought it was going to be a boring doc about a music teacher or something like that. Lol. I ended up loving it of course.
I had never heard of The Music Man until the first Beatles album on which Paul sang “Till There Was You” from the show.
Lux hustled around the bases – one base at a time.
Took his time going to first though
These Dodgers are determined.
Dodgers, Dodgers, burning bright,
In the forests of the night;
What immortal hand or eye,
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
Roses are red
Dodgers are blue
Betts bats leadoff
Then Seager hits 2.
Lux scores!
Mookie woulda come home on that.
Barnes reads that play well and might have scored as well
Lux gets to third. Good job.
Will!!!!!!
Nice comeback by Taylor after nearly getting beheaded.
Last I saw it was 5-2 Dodgers. I see things went temporarily bonkers until the Dodgers righted the ship.
Order restored in the universe.
Order restored in the universe.
Every Dodger had at least one hit. Every Dodger scored at least one run with the exception of Seager.
Talk about hitting on all cylinders!
Also: Seager – you schmuck. Way to ruin a perfectly good column in the box score.
Gnats have lost, so the Rox stay half a game ahead of them.
KJ won the battle against a great hitter.
KJ finished the Story tonight.
-30-
Reminds me of my old days as an ink-stained wretch.
Dodgers win!! 30-10!!
Woo-HOO!!!
This is making me nervous, even with two outs.
Of Coors, I understand.
Kenley not at his best here.
This has been more iike a Coors game.
Unlucky dunk shot but that’s how it’s going tonight.
Blackmon’s was the worst.
Down by one, Gnats had bases loaded with nobody out in the eighth, and ran themselves out of the inning.
Wow.
Chicken Strip struggles in his first start for the Buffalo Wings, lasting only 4-1/3 and 81 pitches. He leaves trailing 2-1.
I wish him well.
Mooookieee!
Looks like he decapitated a cardboard person on that one.
Actually he capitated him!
Turn that frown upside down! Turn that head right side up!
Smith did the decapitation and Mookie bounced him back to life.
You Betts!!!!!!!
Lux is starting to relax and show some life!
The Dodger offense lately is like a stick of dynamite that sits unattended for a long period of time, and then someone finds it and lights a match to it and BOOM!
When this inning started I was counting batters until it got back to the top of the lineup. When Bellinger singled that gave the Dodgers a chance to at least have Mookie bat once more tonight. Now he might bat still this inning!
I picture the dynamite having the ACME brand stamped on the side, and the opposing teams being coyotes.
I couldn’t have described it any better.
Jocularity! (I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean!)
From Merriam-Webster:
Definition of jocular
1 : said or done as a joke : characterized by jesting : playful jocular remarks
2 : given to jesting : habitually jolly or jocund a jocular man
3 : origin traced to Manitoba, Canada, during the first quarter of the 21st century (OK, I added that.)
Ha!
JAJJ
Are we irrepressible? (Or have I spoken too soon?)
The answer is yes.
They must hate us so much.
Joc pop!!!!!!!
Your baseball gods taketh away and then giveth.
Yep. That’s how they do!
Anything you can do, I can do better. I can do anything better than you…
I cant help but think of an early 60s recording of this by two Italian opera stars, Ettore Bastianini and Giulietta Simionato, whose command of English was shall we say limited. Great fun.
Oh yay AJ!
JAAJJ
That’ll do!
AJ!!! Heartbreaker!!!
No GIDP, please (reverse jinx).
Pads beat the As.
Snakes swatting the Gnats, but it’s close.
I left my Gameday watch to prepare for bed. A grand slam! Are you kidding me?
It was a weird sequence of events leading up to it.
Whatever else, I do like seeing Mattie Kemp.
Some nights just arent going to be easy.
I was afraid that might happen. Baseball gods going, let’s make this more interesting shall we?
Pillar will swing at anything. You don’t want to ever give him a strike.
The weird one was the Blackman hit before the GS.
Muncy misjudged that.
I couldn’t see where it was either.
He saw the big swing and took a step back.
So unlucky! Bloop single.
Muncy followed the swing and took a step back.
Didn’t go far enough to be a bloop.
Really nice play by Brewster and Bellinger.
Lucky to be hit by the slider.
Thrill Smith!!
We need to trade for a Jones.
Or a Wesson.
Thrill Smith!!
Hmmm…must be the 7th.
Hmmm…must be the 7th.
Hit it hard where they can’t catch it
Good revenge, CT3.
I recall Garvey getting knocked down like that, and then homering on the next pitch.
Taylor waited for Smith to do it.
Good revenge, CT3.
OK, Joc, earn your keep.
Not like that.
Lots of fastballs.
Cody joins the hit parade.
It’s Bellinger time, right now.
Was that what you had in mind?
Well, I was looking for something more, but I will take it.
Mookie Mookie Mookie.
Along with Cory Cory Cory
Watching Mookie watch his hit ball while running his heart out was delicious.
And he did it twice
We are getting close to what Magic has called winning time
Good recovery, Gavin!
Ah, I see it is, on Gavin.
I’d probably score it a hit – not a routine play.
Is that not an error?
E 4
That’s a play Bellinger usually makes easily.
14 pitches per inning on average. Very good, Mr May.
Smith fidgets a lot in the batter’s box
Drone delays are very boring. Bring back the streaker delay, or the kissing bandit delay I say.
Steiner is the ultimate drone delay.
He drones on and on
Kiké was pretty funny about it.
He could be a great TV color guy some day.
2020 is a ridiculous year.
Drone delay of all things.
Drone delay. Another first.
Smith went after the loose ball almost casually. Just about let the runner go to third as a result.
So far Colorado not completely fooled by the fastball.
Bill Shaikin column:
Despite the DP, also managed to get the pitch count up a bit.
When he connects… it’s gone.
Maxie!
¡Máximo!
That’s better!
Tie game! Max!!!!!
Arenado’s D is amazing.
And again w the killer third strike.
Wow. 99 and right at the knees.
With wicked side to side movement.
Wrinkling in as Vin used to say.
Movement https://twitter.com/super70ssports/status/1302051495563722752?s=21
Really live arm.
That strike 3 pitch should be illegal.
Ball be flying and Rockies be swinging.
Ooph.
Not a cheap shot.
