Reds at Dodgers, 4:10 PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FS-O, MLBN (out-of-market only)
The Reds ask RHP Asher Wojciechowski (1-0, 4.50 ERA) to make his fifth start of the year, tenth of his career and first ever against the Dodgers. In his previous four starts the Reds have gone 3-1. He’ll face Alex Wood (6-0, 1.69 ERA), fresh off the Dodgers’ 10-day disabled list. Wood has a 25 1/3 scoreless inning streak going and has struck out 39.5% of the right-handed hitters he’s faced over the past 30 days.
This day in Dodgers’ history:
- 2012 Bobby Abreu, who was tied with Mickey Mantle for 109th place on the all-time hit list, surpasses the Yankee legend with a second-inning double in L.A.’s 8-2 interleague victory over Seattle at Safeco Field. The 38 year-old outfielder has collected 2,416 hits playing for the Astros, Phillies, Yankees, Angels, and Dodgers.
In other news of former Dodgers, Maury Wills was presented the “Hall of Game” award by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum today. The Hall of Game annually honors former Major League Baseball (MLB) stars who played the game with the same passion, determination, flair and skill exhibited by the heroes of the Negro Leagues.

NPUT @ 0800HST, 1100PDT
I should be able to catch much of this one from here in Zambujiera do Mar.
1:10 PM PDT game tomorrow.
Just heard that the Cubs aren’t doing the Dodgers any favors.
Or Milwaukee.
Actually, the Cerveceros did beat the Snakes last night.
Woo-HOO!!!! Roberts is a genius after all.
1st career walkoff hit for Seager, Kennedy says on the radio.
Crazy.
Impressive that three different people came through for that.
Love seeing the team effort.
We win!
W00T!
Corey!
By the way – I’ve switched back to the Dodger broadcast. Hoping that’s a good vibe.
Yeah, but now you’re stuck with Steiner.
Thank you!
It’s the little things over the course of a long season that can make the difference. Lol.
JT: Just Terrific.
Poor Forsythe has been awful since he came off the DL. He needs spring training all over again.
Never took the bat off his shoulder.
C’mon, JT!
Walkoff doesn’t havta be an HR. (But won’t throw it back.)
New plan: Scoreless outing by Jansen and then Dodgers score one to win it.
This would be the good kind of W for a closer, not after a blown save.
Why Kenley when it’s a tie? Can’t remember – does Dave usually do this?
In extras sometimes but not often (or ever?) in the 8th inning.
Puzzling to me.
And – Jansen’s spot is due up in the bottom of the ninth.
He must know something we don’t?
Meaning he is probably only going to pitch this one inning.
Mo and Kennedy had good explanation — at home, he won’t have the chance for the save in extras, so give the chance to win right now.
Ah, and it worked!
Keep them off the scoreboard, Kenley.
Asked and received.
Now put the Dodgers on the scoreboard, Blue Bats!
Switched over to the Reds broadcast a few innings ago.
Yes friends, I am that much of a crazy, carefree kinda guy.
Game plan: Score 2-3 runs here and then bring in Jansen.
Or would even take 1 run.
Nice. No harm, no foul – and no runs!
Could really use a ground ball double play right here.
I’m back. Dang, still tied. Poor Wood after all that good work. What a throw by Puig!
Puig again stops the runner from getting an extra base.
Definitely worth being in the lineup if only for his D.
He is a good rightfielder.
Nice understatement.
Like Obama is missed. And Bush x 2. And ____________
(Again, not politics, current events.)
Quiet night here.
One too many long fly balls this inning.
And so now the game is tied. Back to square one.
They’re starting to see Wood this inning.
Good catch by Taylor!
Taylor with the wheels and the mitt!
Wood – if you are going to hit a batter do it on the first pitch of the at bat, not the 7th.
Nice job by Yasiel and Chase.
Hi all. Granddaughters here so I can only check in occasionally. Wood still pitching well, it looks like. And efficiently!
So. Life is pretty good then in your world.
Life is excellent. How’s your son doing?
The Gnats are gnow 16 games out of first but, because the Pads blew an eighth-inning lead bigly, SF avoided sole occupancy of the basement.
Joey Votto is a tough out for sure.
Now that the Dodgers have the lead, I can relate (or link to my relation of) the saga of The Freezer and the Thermostat of Doom.
I’ve been in better tempers than yesterday afternoon, I’m telling ya.
A friend of mine had a similar refrigerator/Sears saga that kept me entertained for nearly three months.
Ball set on tee and Cody launches it.
Joc another home run tonight in OK plus an RBI on a SF.
Close play at home on that sacrifice fly.
Wood was solid there in the first.
Reds are a good candidate of having the 2 fastest players in MLB with Peraza and Hamilton.
Wow – I had forgotten Bobby Abreu had played with the Dodgers. That’s crazy that it was only 5 years ago and I have basically no memory of that!
Also – using the word that three times in a sentence is probably not the best writing practice.
I lost my pedant’s hat.
Old-Timers Game live on Facebook.
I am probably alone here, but I have never cared for “Old Timers” games for the same reason I do not go to current concerts of bands and singers I grew up listening to in the sixties. They had their moment and now they are just embarrassing themselves.
Some musicians can still perform well. Joan Baez and Judy Collins still have their sopranos.
I I do still buy any album James Taylor puts out, but not sure I would go a concert if he was in town. I was a big fan of Joan Baez. I remember watching a film in high school physics featuring her father who was a physicist.
Ya hay alineación… https://twitter.com/LosDodgers/status/873692910184792064
Wood was named NL Pitcher of the Month for May.
It took ’em a while, didn’t it? Are they on Madrid time?
Ha! It did seem like it took them awhile, but I guess because I was anticipating it so. I guess they give the writers a week or so to provide their votes.
If I recall correctly, they named Bellinger rookie of the month almost immediately.
Looks like both were named on the second day of a June.
Now in Portugal. On the coast of Alentejo, Zambujeira do Mar.
Never been to Portugal, but I did study European Portuguese (as opposed to Brazilian).
Spoken, they almost seem like two distinct languages.
I still sound more Brazilian, relatively speaking (so to speak), because that’s where I’ve traveled.
What took you to South America initially? Business?
Initially pleasure, then research, then marriage, then work.
Thereby bumping the population from 911 to 912, huh?
