Game 115, 2016

Pirates at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOTPIT

I’m beginning to think that Rich Hill is a phantom. His blisters preclude him from starting again today, so the Dodgers ask rookie RHP Ross Stripling (3-3, 3.79 ERA) to step in. He’ll face the Pirates’ Ivan Nova (8-6, 4.83 ERA), who will be making his second start for them after coming over from the Yankees at the trade deadline. His first one was successful: he went seven innings and gave up just three runs in a win over the Reds last Saturday.

Josh Reddick hasn’t gotten off to a great start with the Dodgers, but he’s 5-for-13 with two homers against Nova in his career.

  1. This game has gone so smoothly since I turned it on in the bottom of the third. It really feels like the Dodgers should be the ones leading 5-1.

    • It was one of those odd games. Stripling pitched pretty well, while Nova got scorched but lucky (though he did have good defense behind him).

  2. Meanwhile, in SF, Ted Bundy leaves the game after holding the Gnats to a single run in 5-2/3.

  3. So I have a question about ARod. Were the Yanks planning on this for a while? Seems strange to announce and have your last day in the middle of August without there being some planning. I realize he has not been playing at all well. However, isn’t he only a few HRs short of 700. Is it that they don’t want to pay him any bonuses?

    • What strikes me as odd is that it would surely be good for ticket sales if he was only four away if he were hitting. But he hasn’t been. He’s barely been playing as a DH and he hasn’t been in the field at all,

  4. What have I missed? Seems like Stripling is having a hard go of it by the looks of the linescore.
