Phillies at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CSN-P
The Dodgers keep putting youngster Julio Urias (1-2, 4.98 ERA) on the hill despite their efforts to minimize his number of pitches this year because their other options keep getting injured. Tonight he’ll face RHP Zach Eflin (3-4, 4.77 ERA), whose last two starts have been forgettable. In one of them his team got six runs against Madison Bumgarner, no less, and he couldn’t hold the lead.
This will be the first time Chase Utley faces his former team.

Joe Blanton went on the bereavement list and Josh Ravin was called up to fill his slot.
NPUT
SVS back to the DL. Chris Taylor headed to LA from Iowa.
Well, at least you got a chance to see him.
Grandal has 11 dingers in his last 106 plate appearances.
Whoopee!
I don’t mind so much if the Giants win as long as we do. I am less happy when they lose and we do as well.
But I was looking forward to another amazing McCovey Chronicles if they lost. It would have been so good!
Schadenfreude can be fun, though.
We win!
Woo-HOO!!!
Puig would have thrown him out at third. Maybe.
Ravin strikes out Featherston. Insert another bird joke here.
So what’s nest?
Giants won, 8-7, in 14.
No, the Fish lost.
Boo.
Josh Ravin sighting!
And I thought it would be nevermore.
Ha.
Oh his lost Lenore.
I hope that we don’t use Jansen in the 9th with such a big lead.
Highly unlikely.
8-7 Giants. Crawford with his 7th hit of the game to drive in a run.
I think that ties an NL record.
I would be more excited about that fact if SF lost. Or, you know, if it had been a Dodger who had done it.
Seager!
Top of the 13th and MadBum pinch hits with the bases loaded and 2 outs. He strikes out. On to the bottom of 13.
7-7 after 13. Giants have used eight pitchers, not counting Bumgarner.
Dinner party watching under the table.
¿En Méjico?
Si, comiendo conejo en salsa verde.
¡Suena rico! ¿Dónde en Méjico?
DF por ahora. Manana a la beach house en Puerto Escondido
In a 7-7 tie, the Giants put runners on first and third with none out in the top of the 11th and failed to score. In the inning Pence struck out for the fourth time tonight.
Much simpler inning when you only give up a single to the opposing pitcher – rather than a double!
Has a pitcher ever hit for the cycle?
I’m going to say yes – only because baseball has been around forever.
Apparently on July 28, 1888 Jimmy Ryan of Chicago White Stockings pitched a couple of innings (along with playing the outfield) and hit for the cycle. Final score was Chicago over Detroit Wolverines, 21-17. Time of game was 1:50!
Thanks, but why didn’t I remember that?
Ha! Obscure baseball trivia for $200 Alex.
Especially since you were there!
Wow. Looks like I’m joining a wild one already in progress.
Pull Up a Chair.
Ha. I’m lying on the couch which is even better.
We’ve just pulled a Machado.
Here is the report on Puig mania in Iowa. I have never seen so many people at a Monday night game. Of course The Chicken was there as well. Puig went 0-3 with a walk and a SO. He did throw a runner out trying to score from second on a single to right center. The final score was Cubs 3 Dodgers 2. Old friend Federowicz drove in the decisive run with a double.
Brett Anderson started and went five with five hits and two runs.
Thanks for the good report. What part of Iowa do you live in? My wife and I went to our niece’s wedding in Sloan, a small town, three years ago. We live in California.
We live in Des Moines.
What happened in the field on the last two plays, the balls hit to Seager and Urias? (I know it wasn’t good.)
Uriah threw the ball away somehow. Corey’s I’m not sure of,
Seager side armed a one hopper into second base and the runner beat the throw.
My granddaughters are here with me, bringing us luck!
Can we get five innings out of Urias in fewer than 80 pitches?
48 right now
Can he get out of this inning in under three runs?
Can he get out of this inning?
Had he not thrown that ball away, he’d probably have gone six.
Segedin is an RBI machine.
Eflin was an overnight Dodger once, supposedly.

A one-day wonder.
As someone noted on Dodger Insider, with Blanton out we now have Chavez Ravin in the pen!
Brilliant!
