Game 107, 2016

Dodgers at Rockies, 5:40PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOTRM

Rookie righthander Brock Stewart (0-1, 9.00 ERA) spot-starts for the Dodgers, filling in for the newly-acquired Rich Hill and the possibly-injured Bud Norris, not to mention the disabled Hyun-Jin Ryu and Brett Anderson and Clayton Kershaw. In his first and only other MLB start he went five innings, gave up five runs, struck out seven and walked two. He’s been very good in the minors, posting a 1.80 ERA across Double-A and Triple-A and has a 3.00 ERA in four Triple-A starts since he went back down after that MLB start. He’ll be opposed by the Rockies’ rookie lefty Tyler Anderson, (3-3, 3.33 ERA), who’s had six quality starts in his first nine in the big leagues. He hasn’t given up a dinger in his last 22 1/3 innings.

Personnel news: Stewart, Fields and Urias up; Toles and Josh Ravin down (the latter after reinstatement from the restricted list for PED usage; he also recuperated from broken bone surgery while out); Coleman (right shoulder fatigue) and Liberatore (left elbow inflammation) to DL. And the biggest and most unpleasant news of all: Kershaw moved to 60-day DL. Eligible to return August 27.

Lineup when available.

  1. It’s almost as if the FO knew that our pitching would be shredded in Coors (pretty much win or lose), so time to put some guys on the DL to see if they can get better for later in the month and bring in some bull pen fodder.

  2. Hey friends. I’m at a CFL (Winnipeg Blue Bombers) game with my son. Game was supposed to start at 7:30 but it is raining like crazy here with lots of lightening and so we are still waiting for it to begin. 2 hour rain delay!

Anyway, seems like my experience is still a lot better than the Dodger game. Yikes! How many home runs do they plan to give up?

  3. This may be the game where the Dodgers’ season begins to fade. The Kershaw news to go with two blowouts by the Rockies…I’m not feeling very good about our prospects.

    • Hang in there Link. This season is not for the faint of heart apparently. But there maybe a few more turns in the road yet.

    • It’s been said before, but it’s Coors, Link. It was designed to crush your dreams.

  4. A win may have to be in order: Giants and Cueto up 4-0 over the Phillies in the 3rd.

    • Cueto’s been beatable lately. Yesterday, if I’d told you the Gnats would score eight and BadGums would fail to win, what would you have said?

  5. Given the unrelenting assault of injuries, this Dodger team is positively heroic to be where they are in the standings now. And Gnatfans whine because they spent a few Panik-stricken weeks.

    • I think the players and the FO all deserve some credit for where we stand right now. It is like those guys that flew B 29’s back home from flying over Germany with most of their plane missing.

      • My uncle got shot down over France and, with help from the resistance, made it overland to Switzerland.

  6. I am getting the sinking feeling that we won’t see Kershaw on the mound again this season. Gee, I hope I am dead wrong.

  7. I know he is not on the team now, but I would rather have had Puig batting cleanup than SVS.

    • Other things being equal, I would agree with you. Reddick is good, but not v. lefties.
