Nationals at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, MASN2, ESPN
The Dodgers go for their sixth straight win and a series sweep tonight behind their youngster Julio Urias, whose 0-2 won-loss record and 4.50 ERA don’t fully reflect how he’s improved with each outing. The Nationals ask their own youngster 23-year-old Joe Ross to stop the juggernaut. Ross is 6-4 with a 3.13 ERA.
The Dodgers have held a private workout with yet another veteran Cuban infielder, one Yulieski Gurriel.

Maybe good for a laugh…Uribe, asked after his unfortunate incident recently why he doesn’t wear a cup: “I don’t think the trainers have my size.”
Uribe is a swelled guy
Seager is the subject of the cover story of Jon’s Dodger Insider mag this month.
Don’t forget to vote for him for the ASG!
My favorite sombrero story was Jason Repko in 2008. Matty had an issue with his contacts and Torre had to sit him for a game against Oswalt. Repko was called up from AAA to start in his place. Torre figured that he would throw Repko into the fire and have him lead off. Going into the 9th he had struck out 4 times in 4 PA. The Houston reliever had two strikes on Repko and appeared to have thrown a third, but was called for a balk. Jason flew out on the next pitch.
I thought you might have a story where Repko collided with other players 5 times in one game.
Dodger Depth will get a start against Pirates.
Finally got to catch up on yesterday’s game. Serious Woo-HOO going on there!
I’ve only just caught up too, wow
Here’s what really happened.
The Dodgers have the 7th best record in baseball.
If the overall MLB standings were like marathon runners, I would say that the Dodgers would be leading the third pack of runners and making a charge towards the second group. First group has the Chicago, Texas(!), and SF. The second group has Washington, Baltimore, and Cleveland.
The Dodgers are closing the gap, with all of their late inning dramatics. In the past two weeks, they have won 6 games with 8th or 9th inning game winning hits. Last nights had to be the craziest of them all!
Okay, checking the video replays this morning and I guess the 9th inning was kind of unusual. Do you think they send down Taylor? Does Puig get fined for running through Woodward’s stop sign? Does Woodward get fined for putting up the stop sign?
Listening to it on the radio last night I thought for sure there was a close play at the plate that Puig just beat the throw and tag. It wasn’t until later that I realized the relay was bobbled and no throw home was even made.
So, I don’t know how that will play out re:Puig and Woodward. Woody was far down the line, so Puig may have been pretty far along before he picked up the sign. Wild horse got to run I guess.
I think Woodward assumed the relay throw would be made and would be accurate and judged Puig would be caught. Who knew?
Fine them both. I am sure the rest of the players would chip in and pay the fines. Good for camaraderie.
Even if they wanted to send down Taylor – a talented player who may have similarities wit Puig – their options are limited: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2016/06/23/where-do-michael-a-taylor-and-the-nationals-go-from-here/
Thinking of Taylor’s play – I certainly feel worse for him than I did for Holliday and his error in the playoff game years ago.
He also struck out five times tonight.
Probably thinking about that and how he was going to keep Howie from scoring and be the hero of the game for the Nats despite the platinum sombrero.
Curious if people think Urias took a step back from his last start – or was he just facing a better lineup?
I only saw the first two innings, but it seemed like he threw a lot. Vinnie said something like 67 pitches in the first three innings? The average NL pitcher throws about 15 per inning, so the kid still isn’t very efficient.
All I know is that i was bored. I just can’t stand watching a pitcher throw 20+ pitches in each of the first 2 and sometimes 3 innings.
Meanwhile, earlier in the game: https://vine.co/v/5BtnYEPX6dT
Corey’s HR gives him one more than his brother Kyle. Think there’ll be a phone or text msg tonight?
I’ve never seen anything quite like that, at least north of Little League.
Whoops!
We win!!!
What the…! Crazy good stuff! Thank you Taylor!
I think the Dodgers will regret having pulled Grandal. His bat was hot again tonight.
Of course not as much as I regret them bringing in Baez. Not (just) the home run but really the slowness of his style of pitching. Zzzzz
we wrecked that chance
I think I marginally like SVS pinch running and Ellis pinch hitting vs the other way around.
Here’s a chance
Venable kinda sorta rhymes with forgettable. He is getting off to a slow start in his Dodger era. Dodgers winning inspiite of him not because of him thus far.
In fact, a few days ago, he led off the extra-inning with a double and came across to score the winning run.
on field delay for?
nice AB Joc
This is only the third time in his career that Puig has started a game batting eighth.
Oh Julio. Giving up run-scoring doubles to the opposing pitcher is not good.
Enough already!
They’re on an easy stretch of their schedule. It gets much tougher after the ASB.
Utley scores on wild pitch. Hope he’s not embarrassed.
Urías looks great in the first, and Dodgers take the lead.
Utley 90 feet away from 1,000 runs for his career.
Perhaps the goal of the Dodgers is to field the entire starting lineup for Cuba at the next World Baseball Classic.
I doubt that any of them would be welcome on the Cuban team.
I remember this fellow from the WBC games back in 2009?, when he was considered to be the best player on their team. Also saw Chapman pitch that year mowing down the Aussies, including our beloved Trent.
