Dodgers at Cubs, 11:20AM PT, TV: SPNLA, CSN
Julio Urias (0-0, 10.13 ERA) gets the start which would normally be Kenta Maeda’s, but Maeda’s hand is still a little sore from getting hit with a line drive his last time on the mound. He’s expected to start Friday against the Braves in Los Angeles. Urias’s opponent today will be right-hander Kyle Hendricks (3-4, 2.93 ERA), who got a complete game win over the Phillies on May 28. Urias lasted only 2 2/3 innings in his major league debut against the Mets May 27.
Alex Wood has a posterior impingement of his elbow and will need four weeks of rest. After that he’ll start a throwing program and then pitch in a rehab assignment. Hyun-Jin Ryu threw a 90-mph fastball in Fresno last Wednesday and woke up with shoulder soreness, so the team has slowed his rehab down. Brandon McCarthy threw 45 pitches in two innings of bullpen work and hit 89 mph. Scott Van Slyke is expected to come off the 15-day DL this weekend in LA.
Lineup when available.
Utley 2B
Seager SS
Turner 3B
Gonzalez 1B

The Weisman Wrapup of Mr. Urias’s day.
Later friends. Looking forward to the Dodgers getting back to LA and playing the Braves!
Just checking in, the game is not on here, looks like we need extra batting practice.
Couldn’t hurt, but give some credit to the pitching.
Questions I have about this team: Will Puig, Turner, Pederson and Grandal start hitting? Will the starters be able to overcome all the injuries? Will Either ever return? How about Ryu? Will the pen prevail?
Injuries are killing us, particularly starters and outfield. With Either and Van Slyke out, certain players are getting too much game time who don’t deserve it ie Crawford
Joc is hitting as well as just about anyone not named Trayce. Just a few days ago Chase, Agon, Seager and Joc all were at identical OPS+ 120.
Just stop already Cubs.
Kershaw wins pitcher of the month. Earliest in terms of month that he has won the honour. In the past, he has won it in July 4 times and June once. Since 2011, he has been named pitcher of the month at least once in a season, except for 2012.
Hatcher doing alright in low leverage situation.
Perhaps the Dodgers can have a 4 run ninth to get Urias off the hook.
Again.
Um, 5 needed now. Rats.
Oh dear. Not too fortunate for Urias.
“It’s Wrigley, Jake.”
Uh Link. It’s Julio.
(Yes don’t worry I have seen Chinatown.) 😉
Julio probably hasn’t, so using his name might have been too obscure. 😉
Haha. Good call.
Boo. The error by Joc so costly. Now 2-0.
Second run is on Joc’s error.
But unfortunately still an earned run against Urias.
One of the two was earned.
Oops. Initially Gameday showed both runs being earned.
Urias is getting a light hazing by umps it seems. Welcome to the big leagues rook – we are going to squeeze you a bit.
A much better first inning than his first first inning in NY.
Inauspicious beginning.
Recovered well.
