Marlins at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FS-F
Scott Kazmir takes his 1-1 record and his 6.63 ERA to the mound along with some bruises at the base of his left (throwing) thumb. He says he’s fine and will be “good to go.” His opposition will be Justin Nicolino, who’s just been brought up from AAA New Orleans. Down there he had a 3.60 ERA over 25 innings in four starts. He pitched 74 innings in MLB last year, going 5-4 with a 4.01 ERA. He’s replacing Jarrod Cosart on the Marlins’ roster. Cosart was optioned to work on his control at the AAA level.
Lineup when available.

Seems that Jon is as much a trivia buff as Ross Porter (and Scoop). http://dodgers.mlblogs.com/2016/04/28/dodger-record-three-pinch-walks-in-same-inning/

Ha! I’ve read Ricks. He’s good, and now I know he’s witty too.
Pfui. A two-hit shutout. Wasted a decent outing by Kazmir.
Night all. Maybe tomorrow there will be more signs of hope and life.
Every pitchers ERA went down tonight. Except for those who already had a 0.00 ERA.
Good observation.
Our batting averages are disappearing into the dust.
If Mattingly ever chortles, he must be chortling now.
Oh man. That about sums it up.
Wonder how often a team sends up three straight pinch-hitters and all of them walk.
Also wonder how often a team sends up three straight pinch-hitters and all of them walk, and none of them scores.
Ross Porter would know. 😉
Porter got the shaft from the Dodgers many years ago. One thing I appreciated about him was that on the post-game call-in show he always treated people with respect regardless of how off-the-wall their comments and/or suggested trades were.
And to three different pitchers to boot. Best thing to happen to the Marlins was having Phelps get kicked out, so they could bring in Urena.
What? How did that happen?
Never mind, I looked it up. Puig Ks, Adrian flies out to right. Why couldn’t that have happened in reverse order? We might have gotten one run out of it anyway.
Jon does the dirty work on this (see above)
Blanton has been mostly good so far in this season. Early I know but still nice to see.
Can’t imagine it will get any easier in the ninth to score runs than it was here, 3 walks and no runs.
What a horrible time to check in. Bases loaded, one out and… nada.
Kind of early in the season for one of our hitting slumps.
Drat.
Just awful.
Puig will be due even more in his next at bat.
Gah!
Puig is due.
surely we are due
Puig can hopefully drive the ball here.
a single would do
This could take a while.
2 more walks this inning and we tie the game!
7 straight balls by the relievers before their first strike. Could use some free base runners at this point.
This Morris fellow was a first round pick by the Dodgers in 2006. (traded to Pirates in the three-way trade for Manny)
Oh yeah. I recall the name. First rounder indeed, What a difference 10 years makes. Or something like that.
Nice to see the starter finally gone. Too bad we couldn’t have taken the shine of his 0.00 ERA.
Utley with the spark??
Seems like the Colorado series took the life out of the Dodgers. It has taken them a while to really jive in this series.
Pretty sad . . . thus far.
Alright. Nice to see the Marlins have been held in check since the start of the game. Now Dodgers can control the last few innings and pull this thing out.
Good plan!
Feels like mostly straw grasping but maybe it will work!
Seager flashing the leather and the arm.
Again.
Has the new Marlin pitcher really been as good as his linescore?
Not too shabby.
Put my son to bed and fell asleep myself. Woke up to see the Dodgers struggling to stay awake in their game. Will need some late inning hitting to comeback in this one,
Batters, not so much.
Scotty picking it up.
Just looked at Gameday and see that Kazmir gave up hits to four of the first five batters and the only out he got was on a line out. Perhaps he will settle down, but if not I’d sit him down for a spell or put him in the bullpen.
Presumably pitching through a minor injury. Doc saying he is a vet and trusts Kazmir’s judgement that he is well enough to pitch. Hmmm.
not the best of starts
Kazmir has no command.
Ellis missed the tag, besides being late.
Id be worried, but so far he got what he wanted, a couple of not so blistered grounders.
Worry anyway. Kazmir’s not fully healthy and he’s not been real good even when he is so far this year.
Going to watch the Nats-Fillies at Nats Stadium, but hope to be back in time for the start of this one,
Not sure I’m gonna manage it tonight, got a heavy cold in shockingly wintry Buenos Aires. Could be early to bed.
No tango tonight, huh?
Went to the annual book fair today, and had a nice fish dinner near our apartment. I’m tiring easily, though.
