Game Three, 2015

Padres at Dodgers, 7:10PT, TV: SNLA Spanish, SportsNet LA, ESPN2

Each team has won one game in the opening Clash of the Titans of the NL West, so tonight is the rubber match. The Padres send out Andrew Cashner, who’s 1-2 lifetime against the Dodgers. Don’t let that fool you, though. He’s got a 1.53 ERA with 45 Ks in 53 innings against the home team. His opponent will be Brandon McCarthy, who last year had a 2.61 ERA against the Padres in two starts for the D-Backs, giving up one run in 14 innings.

Adrian Gonzalez is 6 for 9 (.667) to start the season, with 2 singles, 2 doubles, 2 home runs and 4 runs scored. Jimmy Rollins and Howie Kendrick are each 3 for 8 (.375), Carl Crawford is 2 for 6, and nobody else has more than one hit.

  1. If you had told me after three games neither Kershaw nor Greinke would have a win but McCarthy would I’d have been surprised to say the least.

  2. Vin, “unless there is a huge rally in the ninth inning…” You mean like last night?

  3. Nice. Relatively smooth although JP did look a bit wild on some of those pitches.

  4. Howell time. A bit nervous to see how JP does this evening. Here’s hoping for a clean inning.

  5. That was the first pitch that was on the inner half. Hit off the hands.

  6. The way he is hitting tonight, I’m almost surprised he didn’t get the Bonds treatment.

  7. They will have to pitch to Gonzo with men on base if Puig doesn’t GIDP.

  8. First and third no one out. Everyone hits. AGon might come up this inning, which could mean he might get 2 cracks at #4,

  9. Too bad. Up to that point he pitched as well as Kershaw did in the first game. We may need Gonzo to hit another one tonight yet.

    • I agree. He just got tired, and they were all over him. This Padre team is unrecognizable.

  10. If this was last night, McCarthy would have been gone after the third pitch this inning.

  11. McCarthy is done for the night….wonder how long til Mattingly will see it?

  12. Just realized that AGon will be looking to drive another one in his next a bat – to go for 4 in a game!

  13. Good grief! Can we figure out what AGon is eating for breakfast and pass it around.

  14. Jack, as a cricket follower (if I remember correctly) did you catch any of the world cup?

    • Just listened to the finals on BBC. And mocked the Brit exchange pilot out our way for England’s sad performance/

  15. McCarthy also not looking like he will go the distance in this one. Closing in on 90 pitches.

  16. Always love it when the 8th hitter can extend the inning so the pitcher can bat not starting an inning. See if Joc can do that here.

  17. Cashner not long for this game at this rate. Get to see more of that Padre bullpen soon I’m guessing.

  18. curious to see that wild play later on when I check out the post match video

  19. That play reminds me of curling – sometimes a bunch of rocks spill everywhere out of the house, but the one you expect to move doesn’t!

  20. Can’t blame Puig entirely for that one. McCarthy should have advanced to third on the misplay at the plate.

  21. What the heck is going on here? Crazy inning on both sides of the ball.

  22. Only the one mistake by McCarthy really, but it is enough for him to be behind after his first 2 innings.

  23. Gameday Audio does this weird thing this year were it goes silent between innings. No commercials for me to listen to. Now that I think about it, last year I also got to listen to the Dodger pre-game show and often a bunch of the post-game show as well. This year it comes on about 1 minute before the first pitch.

    • Having early season trouble with my mlb.tv, so tough to stay awake fighting it.

  24. Giancarlo just made a spectacular catch and Puigish throw for a double play in Miami.
