Game 93, 2014

Dodgers at Tigers, 10:08AM PT, TV: SPNLA

It’ll be former Cy Young winner Zack Greinke, 11-4 with a 2.66 ERA, against former Cy Young winner Max Scherzer, 10-3 with a 3.47 ERA. Scherzer faced the Dodgers on April 8, giving up two runs in seven innings in a game the Dodgers won in the 10th on a Carl Crawford double. Greinke didn’t pitch in that earlier two-game series against Detroit.

  1. I think that the Giants 0.001 lead is going to be very short lived, already down 0-6.

  2. May I suggest trading Agon (as well as Crawford and Ethier) and using Hanley at first base? Just a thought, actually I wouldn’t mind them trading Hanley. He’s got a lot of “dog” in him, he’s injury prone, and his mental mistakes worry me. He won’t be getting better in any way.

    • Admire the thought and the gumption. The sort of move that de Podesta would make.

  3. Those of us (like me) who’d been pining for a Tigers – Dodgers World Series because the Dodgers have played every other team in the original AL in the WS might want to look at our hole cards.

    • I know they have the best record, but I’m hoping for a repeat of 88 (including the result)!

    • I’m not picky — I just want the Dodgers to be the NL rep.
And I want them to be a worthy rep (i.e., no anemic offense or porous bullpen).

      • Playing half their games in a “pitcher’s” park, the Dodgers are third in the NL in runs scored. Their OPS+ of 107 leads the league. The pen, meh.

  4. What a disappointing/frustrating-bordering-on-humiliating series and end to what had been a good, tho grueling stretch.

  5. Hopefully the trend from yesterday is repeated today — team who scores first loses.

  6. Here would be my best, take it or leave it offer to the Rays for Price: Lee, Reed, Guerrero, Windle, Crawford, $$. Would rather go after Lee if Rays wanted more.

    • I agree that we need pitching, but I think that is too much to give up. I would like to hold onto Guerrero. He may be a starting infielder for us within a year. But I like the package in that we would hold onto Pederson and Seager. I think the Rays would want one of those two. Also, how long is Price under contract for?

      • Each team’s fans feel they give up to much and at the same time don’t think what was thought to be too much is still not enough to get the deal done.

I think Price is signed through 2015 and I think the Dodgers can sign him to a longer contract after the end of 2014 unless his agent is Scott Boras.

I also think that if there is any chance to keep Seager, Pederson, and Urias the Dodgers would have to include Guerrero.

      • I wouldn’t trade Guerrero or Seager at this point. I would let Pederson go, only because he’s an outfielder (and left-handed) and we already have too many outfielders. Unfortunately none of them are real center-fielders so we do need to look in that direction.

        • Excuse my replying to myself but can anyone tell me why Ethier is a better centerfielder than Puig would be? His speed should give him an advantage and he’s not gun shy like Ethier, who stops chasing flyballs at the warning track…

        • Crawford’s contract is huge — like $18M per for the next three or four years, I think (even higher — see below). Given his injuries and age, I wouldn’t take that on. I suspect that’s what WBBsAs means.

          • Crawford can still play so if the Dodgers paid the part of his salary that he no longer is justifying, I think Tampa fans would welcome back an old favorite. Why bother to comment on the concept that Tampa would have to pay all $20 million?

          • I doubt they’d pay even the ML minimum for somebody who, IF HEALTHY, would take away playing time from their prospects.

          • Tampa doesn’t have many fans of any kind, and the serious ones understand that their best chance to win is to get the maximum developing players before, like Price, they leave as free agents. There never should have been a team in Tampa in the first place, and the Devil Rays should leave if they ever find a suitable place to relocate.

        • Crawford can be a useful player, but he’s certainly not the direction the Devil Rays want to go, no matter the price (so to speak).

          • Nor do they want 9 23 year-olds in their starting lineup if that is closer to what you think their direction is.
