Game 34, 2014 — The Return of Kershaw

Dodgers at Nationals, 4:05PM PT, TV: SPNLA

The Dodgers have been getting very good starting pitching this season, even without their ace. Tonight will be Kershaw’s first start since the Antipodean Opening Day on March 22 in Sydney, Australia. He’s had two successful rehab starts in the minors after getting the word from the docs that his shoulder muscle was healed.

The Nats send out Blake Treinen, a right-hander with a record of 0-0 with a 1.35 ERA. He’s been at AAA Syracuse. This will be his first career start.

  1. Awful nice night at the park. The Kid was on. Their youngster looked good as well, but had some back luck. Rubber match tomorrow and that’s where I’ll be about ten rows up from home plate.

    • What a pleasure, to see Kersh when he’s on!
Let’s see — you left “early” last night (during the deluge) and LA loses. You stayed tonight and they win.
So, it’s up to you, Bob — stick it out through the bottom of the 9th tomorrow — no matter what! — and the Blue take the series!

      • Almost time to go to the park. Hope to see Puig today. Last year he threw out Harper at third (well, he would have if they had had replay).

  2. pirates beat Gnats on an overturned call in the bottom of the 9th

  3. Nice redemption, Hanley.
(Not sure if it was tough or not, but at least he made the play!)

  4. Don’t make it tougher for Kersh!
On the radio, they said that the Dodgers this year hired — for the first time? — a “defensive specialist” coach. . . . Nice idea, but what are they being taught? It obviously ain’t working.

  5. Nice Dee (frustrating that we could have had the extra run to go with it)

    • Yeah, especially since it was Kersh who didn’t get it done — we’re soo used to him doing everything well and he was usually known for bunting.

  6. The Kid Comes Back!
(Kershaw today . . . and a favorite book from my childhood, about a Dodger OF in WWII who becomes part of the French Resistance, then come back to play ball.)

  7. What happened to Nomar on the radio side today?
I’ve meant to comment that I’m not a Steiner-hater, but I really like Mo in the lead and Nomar on color.
Don’t hate Kennedy, but prefer NG.

  8. Since I just came in, I’m hearing this rally started because of Kershaw’s hustle.
Once again, The Kid says ‘If it’s meant to be, it’s up to me.’
    Let’s go, Blue — let May 6th be this year’s June 22nd!

  9. Uribear!
Again, weak — but it’s another run!
I can’t wait until these are solid hits.

  10. That’s a nasty strikeout from Kershaw that is up on gameday!

  11. It is exciting to have him back, I think it will give the team a big boost in momentum as we try to chase down those Gnats

  12. Great to have Kersh back.
Hopefully they’ll have bats back, as well!

    • Hope you get to see 9 full innings, in 3 hours or less, ending with a Dodger (and hopefully Kershaw) W!

    • And my first reaction was disappointment he’s not in there. Still, I think the lineup will benefit with SVS playing SOMEwhere.
