Game 16, 2014

Dodgers at Giants, 12:45PM PST, TV: SPNLA.

One of the two de facto aces on the Dodgers staff while Kershaw’s out, Hyun-Jin Ryu brings his 2 – 1 record and his 2.57 ERA to this game. He’ll face Madison Bumgarner, who has a 2 – 0 record with a 3.31 ERA as well as a hot bat. He hit a grand slam and drove in five runs in his last outing.

Mattingly is going with an all right-handed outfield against Bumgarner, saving Ethier and Crawford for pinch-hitting duty.

  1. From Game HQ – “S Van Slyke grounded into double play, pitcher to shortstop to
third to second to third to second to third to second, A Gonzalez out at third,
S Van Slyke out at second”
I hope it doesn’t cost us (should have Van Slyke just stayed at first?)

    • I just read Hicks hitting into fielders choice to right, Belt out at 2nd.
This I just have to see

      • Puig nonchalanted Hicks’s fly ball, dropped it, then was able to throw out Belt at second. Then on the next play, he made a turning over-the-shoulder catch that was just amazing. BTW, it’s really, really windy in SF.

        • Thanks, I just saw both plays on Gameday. It was great that he didn’t just drop it and put his head down, but reacted so quickly

  2. Not surprisingly, Dee made si.com’s Small Sample Size All-Star team.

Surprisingly, old friend Aaron Harang is there too. He’s dominated–2-1, 0.96 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 2.83 K/BB. “He has gone six or more IP all 3 starts, allowing no more than one run in any, He Kd 9 Mets two turns ago, and his other 2 starts came against the Brewers, whom he no-hit for six-plus innings, and Nationals, hardly pushover teams. His only loss came in a game in which the Braves were shut out.”

Also mentioned, in story lead, is old acquaintance Edinson Volquez, he of the 1.29 ERA for the Pirates. Called him an acquaintance since he wasn’t around long enough to become a friend.
