Dodgers at Diamondbacks, 6:40 PM PST, Hyun-Jin Ryu v. Brandon McCarthy, TV: SPNLA.
Ryu is 1 – 1 with a 3.86 ERA. He only lasted two innings in his last appearance against the Giants, giving up six runs in the process. McCarthy is 0 – 1 with a 7.82 ERA. He did well in his first outing through six innings and faded, and in his second start he gave up six runs in six innings.
In case you missed it, Magic Johnson caught (or otherwise came up with) a foul ball off Ethier’s bat Wednesday night and gave it to a fellow fan.

Loney jacks his first for the rays.
First this year. A game-winner.
Glad to see DM leave a reliever in more than one inning when he’s going really strong instead of always using the bullpen formula. (Course, not much formula needed when you’re up 6 in the 9th and cruising.)
Can’t give him too much credit until he does it in a closer game. But at least he gave the bullpen bell cows the night off. Dunno but doubt he even had anybody up behind Wright. If he did, should have been League.
Even striking out the side in the 8th, Wright needed just 25 pitches over 2 IP, 17 of them strikes.
On the post game show, the commentators keep making a big deal about the extra (5th) day of rest for Ryu, and how it probably helped him. FedEx just seconded that notion….
….
So, to me… it begs the question… Why not go with a 6-man rotation?
– Kinda like a football team with a really deep D-line. They can just keep substituting one talented guy after another….and, they get more out of these guys when they are fresher.
At this point, not enough pitchers!
Didn’t hear the conversation, but just eyeballing his starts last year there doesn’t seem to be a major correlation between days rest and performance. If you look at this year, yes that jumps out, but the year is young. This was actually the first time he threw over 90 pitches. FedEx just came up and its his first time catching Ryu so what does he know other than he caught a very good pitcher last night?.
nice way to finish off
our bats are awakening
Get them a HUGE supply of NoDoz!
This is a League game, Smokey.
Gonzo feasting.
Spraying to all fields, he was… Bob. ๐
Last inning for Ryu me thinks (as he approaches 100)
He is a very good pitcher.
Gonzo is part of the fastest rightside defense in baseball.
A very SMALL part.
Uribear bearhands it.
Nice start!
Snake announcers overexcited by DP.
Get them early and often. Whole bunch of Dodger fans in the stadium.
Yanks down to final out! Thank goodness.
Finally splurge on MLB Extra Innings, turn on the tube to see the game and I am treated to late innings of Bosox-Yanks. Ack!
You shoulda got MLBTV.
And those two teams are the Sunday Night Baseball players on ESPN too.
According to papal decree.

Actually, Frank’s a big soccer fan.
He’s an Argentine! Of course he is!
Fan of the Crows, as I recall.

ยก Un buen comienzo!
Kemp is the new 3.5!
Puig tonight as Kemp sits. Ken Gurnick reporting the Puig’s thumb bothers him more catching the ball more than it does swinging the bat.
