I didn’t get very many takers last year as I recall, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a group again.
Here’s the link.
Group Name: Elysian Fields
Group Password: hershiser59
Update: From the official rules:
Lock-time. All picks will lock at the scheduled tip off time of the Tournament currently scheduled for Thursday, March 20, 2014. Your picks for the matchups must be submitted, received and recorded by Sponsor’s computer by the scheduled locktime.
Rats, UConn crushed my bracket yesterday. (I teach in the CT state college system, so it stings even worse than it might.)
You bet against your semi-home team? Tsk. (I picked UConn over Nova for some reason I’ve forgotten, although I’m sure it made sense at the time.)
Does Arizona State root for Arizona? 🙂
It has been weird this year because UConn is no longer in the Big East, so it was harder to compare them with Nova, who stayed.
I picked ASU over Texas despite my U of A connections. That did not work out well. 😉
Harvard within reach of Michigan State with 4 minutes left.
Dayton over Syracuse!
Second day in a row the first game of the day blows up several rounds of my bracket. Mercer beats Duke! Mercer beats Duke!
Ack! First game of the day and it’s already busted two rounds of my bracket! Thanks, Dayton!
I’d really rather not say how far I had Cincinnati going in this one. Argh!
ND State? Ack! Texas? Double Ack!
I got my bracket in 🙂
A look at our cricketers who were either good at baseball or almost played it

great read, thanks

An article about Ethier’s apparent grumpy press conference
http://www.foxsports.com.au/more-sports/los-angeles-dodgers-star-andre-ethier-not-happy-about-scg-outfield/story-e6frf56c-1226859151449
Yeah, but read the article grousing at Aussie Rugby players, coaches and teams for the limited accessibility the press gets to them compared to that the American “guests” offer up.
Fair enough
That was pretty funny. Coaches there must be really controlling.
Ethier, jet lagged and not keen about the field conditions, showed a lot more restraint than he might normally (must have got the Greinke memo).
great article (with a great picture of the Kershaws)
It also contains the timelapse video I mentioned a bit earlier (but linked the wrong article in the post)

So what the writer thinks Aussies really want to see is the NBA or NFL, and baseball’s second or third best, huh? He’s got a nerve taking Greinke to task for being less than excited about visiting his country, then.
I didn’t quite understand what he was going on about at the end
Okay, my bracket’s picked. Showing no bias at all (other than my freshman and sophomore years in attendance there), I picked Arizona to beat Florida for the championship.
I’m in
Good! I was starting to feel very silly — a “group” with only one entry! 😉
I’d like to be able to say wish I cared about the NCAA tournament, but I can’t do so.
I do care about being there for Sundays game 2!!
Saturday’s game starts at 5 a.m. Friday Chilean time.
So is the alarm set already 🙂
Not necessarily advocating the team do more than look at this guy, but it might want to. He was highly regarded at one time, and the organization is hurting for catcher depth.
Especially with Olivo now in self-imposed purgatory. Maybe even if Olivo returns to the fold.

But he’s never going to be more than a backup, if the two evaluators quoted are to be believed. What they need is 18-year-olds at every position in Rookie and A-Ball.
This was Ned’s original target way back when for Kuroda. When Hiroki balked we ended up with FedEx.
Hiroki balked at which catcher the team traded for? Very un-Hiroki-like. Didn’t hear about this.
Ha!. He didn’t want to go to Boston, which would have been for Lavarnway, so we got Fedex instead for Trayvon in the three-way trade with Seattle. Now, if Kuroda had gone to Boston they probably would have made the playoffs in 2011 and might not have been dismantled in 2012 (when we got Gonzo, Beckett and Crawford).
OK. You’re talking about when Hiroki didn’t want to be traded midseason period, then maybe come back as a FA. Said if a Japanese team traded a player midseason it meant it had given up on him, IIRC. Had zero comfort level with the rent-a-player MLB mentality.
Yep, sorry for being so cryptic.
Any Bloggers woken up?

The LA residents on Facebook sneered. The general reaction seemed to be “4.4? Piffle!”
Nice story and timelapse video

Something’s wrong with the link. I get an internal server error at the FoxSports.au site.
try just looking at foxsports.com.au (It worked for me – try the one below – I posted it twice, because I didn’t think it worked the first time)
Ah, my AdBlock software doesn’t like it, or so the Foxsports.au site tells me when I click on the video from its main page. Solved! 😉
Interesting story, including a great timelapse video of the SCG’s transformation

With my team not in the Dance this year, hard to get excited, but maybe I’ll be more dispassionate in my picks.
Despite losing to UCLA in the conference tournament, Arizona still got a Number One seed. So I have worries.
Mine neither. Worst 20 win team in the country.
Who’s that, Dale? U of Hawai’i won 20 this year but lost in the opening round of the Big West tournament and isn’t going anywhere.
UNLV. They did win a Mountain West tourney game, but had only one decent win and lots of losses to unranked teams.
Does anyone know if Jon W is going to Aus with the team?
If he’s said on Dodger Insider I missed it. Don’t think he has.
Me, to Jon, on Twitter: “You flying to Australia with the team, O Insider?”
Jon, to me: “Nope, staying here.”
