NCAA Tournament group

I didn’t get very many takers last year as I recall, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a group again.

Here’s the link.

Group Name: Elysian Fields
Group Password: hershiser59

Update: From the official rules:

Lock-time. All picks will lock at the scheduled tip off time of the Tournament currently scheduled for Thursday, March 20, 2014. Your picks for the matchups must be submitted, received and recorded by Sponsor’s computer by the scheduled locktime.

  1. Rats, UConn crushed my bracket yesterday. (I teach in the CT state college system, so it stings even worse than it might.)

    • You bet against your semi-home team? Tsk. (I picked UConn over Nova for some reason I’ve forgotten, although I’m sure it made sense at the time.)

      • Does Arizona State root for Arizona? 🙂

It has been weird this year because UConn is no longer in the Big East, so it was harder to compare them with Nova, who stayed.

    • So what the writer thinks Aussies really want to see is the NBA or NFL, and baseball’s second or third best, huh? He’s got a nerve taking Greinke to task for being less than excited about visiting his country, then.

  2. Okay, my bracket’s picked. Showing no bias at all (other than my freshman and sophomore years in attendance there), I picked Arizona to beat Florida for the championship.

  3. I’d like to be able to say wish I cared about the NCAA tournament, but I can’t do so.

    • But he’s never going to be more than a backup, if the two evaluators quoted are to be believed. What they need is 18-year-olds at every position in Rookie and A-Ball.

    • This was Ned’s original target way back when for Kuroda. When Hiroki balked we ended up with FedEx.

      • Hiroki balked at which catcher the team traded for? Very un-Hiroki-like. Didn’t hear about this.

        • Ha!. He didn’t want to go to Boston, which would have been for Lavarnway, so we got Fedex instead for Trayvon in the three-way trade with Seattle. Now, if Kuroda had gone to Boston they probably would have made the playoffs in 2011 and might not have been dismantled in 2012 (when we got Gonzo, Beckett and Crawford).

          • OK. You’re talking about when Hiroki didn’t want to be traded midseason period, then maybe come back as a FA. Said if a Japanese team traded a player midseason it meant it had given up on him, IIRC. Had zero comfort level with the rent-a-player MLB mentality.

      • try just looking at foxsports.com.au (It worked for me – try the one below – I posted it twice, because I didn’t think it worked the first time)

        • Ah, my AdBlock software doesn’t like it, or so the Foxsports.au site tells me when I click on the video from its main page. Solved! 😉

  4. With my team not in the Dance this year, hard to get excited, but maybe I’ll be more dispassionate in my picks.

  5. Does anyone know if Jon W is going to Aus with the team?

If he’s said on Dodger Insider I missed it. Don’t think he has.
