Food for argument

Matt Snyder at CBS Sports’s Eye on Baseball blog has picked his all-time lineup of Dodgers based on the best single-season performance he could find at each position. Here’s his lineup:

1. 1949 Jackie Robinson, 2B
2. 2011 Matt Kemp, CF
3. 2004 Adrian Beltre, 3B
4. 1997 Mike Piazza, C
5. 1985 Pedro Guerrero, LF
6. 1930 Babe Herman, RF
7. 1941 Dolph Camilli, 1B
8. 1949 Pee Wee Reese, SS

With Starting Pitchers:
1966 Sandy Koufax,
1928 Dazzy Vance,
1964 Don Drysdale,
1988 Orel Hershisher,
2013 Clayton Kershaw

Before the Koufax purists freak out, the rules of the game say only the best season the player had can be included, otherwise you might have Sandy starting every game of the hypothetical season.

Relievers:
2003 Eric Gagne,
1974 Mike Marshall,
2013 Kenley Jansen

He backs up his choices with his reasoning at the link.

  1. Story @ dodgers.com says Young mulling Dodger offer v. retirement….one month out.

Att: Stan——–fact is Ned sometimes needs an intervention. Make the decision for him and pull the offer. Young doesn’t have anything left in the tank offensively; defensively he’s a liability. Any of the infielders who bounce up and down are better. Yeah, he’s has great character and he’s great in the clubhouse–neither of which add a single tangible thing to an already weak bench.

Sign Justin Turner or Jeff Baker for backup IF, which seems too logical to happen. And look hard all spring to upgrade.

It could be the difference in lifting a WS trophy high–or not.

  2. I was watching the MLB Network last night…
They had on a special about the 80’s Mets’ win over the Astros in the NLCS….

Daryl Strawberry was one of their guests, and it reminded me of that era in Dodgers history…
The Daryl Strawberry, Kal Daniels, Lenny Harris, and finally Eric Davis era.
    Seems like so long ago…..

    • PS – Although Jon Weisman is now with the ‘Official Dodgers Blog’….
I will remain loyal to both THIS blog and HIS blog.
After all, Linkmeister, you’ve totally come through for us on more than one occasion now. And, we appreciate that. Hope you all had a great weekend.

  3. What strikes me is no hired gun FAs and, except for Marshall and Pedro, these are all home grown I believe.
