    • The one thing nobody in the press tells you about Hawai’i is the high cost of living, probably because they don’t notice it till they live here. A half-gallon of milk can be $3.29 – $5.29 depending on whether it’s Safeway’s Lucerne brand (Mainland), Meadow Gold’s local dairy brand, or something in between. Housing is a real bear. So’s gas: at the moment Premium is about $4.47/gallon; regular is $4.29/gallon. And it never drops as fast as it rises.

      So yes, the climate is wonderful and the population is generally kind and thoughtful, but you’d better have some decent income.
