Exciting day, huh?

Senators Corker and Flake spew contempt at His Orangeness President Trump in the morning (my time) and then the Dodgers take Game One of the World Series in the afternoon.

If only Corker and Flake had the cojones to stay and fight rather than just retire. Doing that gives Trump ally Bannon an opportunity to crow, which he promptly took. On the other hand, since they are both die-hard Republicans (Corker: 87% rating from the American Conservative Union; Flake: 97% rating from the same outfit), it’s unlikely they could find common cause with the Democrats on much of anything. Let them be gadflies for the remainder of their terms.

In the World Series, Clayton Kershaw got his first-ever World Series win (in his first try — the Dodgers haven’t been to the Series since 1988, and Kershaw didn’t get to the team until 20 years after that in 2008). The Dodgers got a solo home run by Chris Taylor on the first pitch of the game and then in the sixth inning Taylor was on board with a walk when Justin Turner hit another dramatic home run to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
