Frishberg sings

If you haven’t heard Dave Frishberg play piano, you’re missing a treat. He began as an accompanist but started singing his own compositions in the Sixties. He wrote this song for a friend.

“A friend of mine in Minneapolis invited me to perform at a big party celebrating his 25th year as a lawyer,” he recalled. “I brought ‘My Attorney Bernie’ as a house gift and debuted it in front of all his law partners.”

He also wrote “Peel Me a Grape,” which has been covered a few hundred times, including a lovely version by Diana Krall. He has collaborated with Becky Kilgore on several albums.

I just picked up this album in which Frishberg and Kilgore perform an entire collection of Frank Loesser’s compositions, and I got this one by the pair as well. They make a lovely jazz duo, and they’re wonderful separately too.
