Okay, that’s not quite accurate. The WaPo’s Jennifer Rubin argued against Trump throughout the primaries and the general election and is just as appalled at his victory as any Democrat is.

No presidential candidate has ever behaved and spoken the way Trump did. The rest of the country was entitled to assume his vulgarity, lies, bias and cruelty would be disqualifying. That they were not, but instead were rationalized, minimized or even lauded does not mean the anti-Trump side of America was dense. It means they thought better of their fellow Americans.

Exactly. And the non-racist non-misogynist non-vulgar citizens who voted for Trump don’t get to dodge the charges of racism and misogyny and vulgarity, either. Those folks may not in fact be guilty of those sins, but they’re sure as hell complicit in the election of the candidate who is. There’s a reason “lie down with dogs, get up with fleas” is a cliché.
