What to do with one speaker?

Way back in 1973 or 1974 I bought a pair of Bose 501 Series II speakers from the Navy Exchange in Yokosuka, Japan.

They traveled with me for the next four or five years until I moved to Hawai’i in 1978. During that move one of the speakers was damaged beyond repair, and I filed an insurance claim, collected $100, I think, and put the other speaker in the attic.

In the process of Terminix performing its “Exclusion Control” project the guys went up into the attic and pulled down all the empty stereo boxes that had been up there for 37 years. They also brought down the remaining Bose speaker.

I didn’t have a clue what to do with a single speaker in 1978 and I still don’t have a clue today. I listed it on Craigslist and got a bite, but he misunderstood and thought it was a pair. I had to explain otherwise, which I did. He may or may not still be interested. If he’s not, I guess I’ll take it to the dump.

  1. I bought the exact same pair! I think my daughter’s mom has them now, along with my four channel Sansui receiver!

  2. I sold my Sansui receiver five or six years ago. The TEAC reel-to-reel deck and the Pioneer turntable got tossed into the dumpster during the deck replacement project two years ago. I replaced the turntable with a $75 Audio Technica one, and the receiver with an Onkyo TX-8011.
