Harried homeowner

Microwave oven stopped heating. No appliance repair shop on Oahu fixes microwaves.

Pool pump making screeching noise. Analysis: bearings gone bad. Solution: replace pump.

Extended warranty charges for dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer and oven all due for renewal this month.

Pest/rodent exclusion job scheduled (seal holes, entry points above and below house).

Woe! Woe!

  1. We never used to buy the warranties but then the fridge/freezer icemaker failed three times in 8 months at $160 per visit before any parts or labor even got installed or expended. Since we got it at the Sears outlet place new but for about 1/2 price (it had a small dent/chipped paint on it, as I recall) we figured we had a lemon but even with the warranty we’d be ahead on cost. Then we added (were upsold, really) the other two appliances over time.

I hadn’t see that particular video. It’s interesting that he says straightforwardly that you might be better off buying a new one than trying to repair the malfunctioning one. Ours is not heating and making a loud noise while on, so I’m looking at replacements. I have specific dimension requirements to fit into the hole above the oven, though, so it’s harder than just “go get a new black microwave.”
