Cantor loses!

No, no, not the guy who sings in the synagogue. No, Eric Cantor, the number two Republican in the US House, lost his primary election to some unknown college professor who ran on the idea that Cantor is too liberal.

Yep. I had to read that twice too. Cantor, enemy of almost every legislative initiative sent to the House from the Senate or the White House, lost to an academic who called him liberal. This particular professor seems to be one of the “I hate brown people” crowd:

Mr. Brat ran an underfunded campaign based in part on Mr. Cantor’s presumed support for an overhaul of immigration law that would grant legal status or citizenship to many illegal immigrants. Mr. Cantor, however, had said he opposed “amnesty” for illegal immigrants.

What’s this mean? Probably not much. Mr. Brat will probably win the election for that district in the fall, since no Democrat has held that seat since 1971, but the Republicans will have to find a new Majority Leader. Whoever that is will probably take a lesson from Cantor and say “No” even more loudly than Cantor did.
