And I’m supposed to take you people seriously?

Any group of people which for two years in a row selects Rand Paul as its choice for candidate in the next Presidential election is not one that deserves any respect.

Josh Marshall answers the question I’ve often asked myself: Why is CPAC so well-covered in the mainstream media, despite its comic-opera aspects? He actually has three answers: 1) geography. CPAC is held in DC, and all the political media are either in the city already or within a short train ride of the place; 2) “DC remains, quite simply, mainly wired for Republicans. Reporters are simply more interested as a general matter in the GOP because they’re used to thinking that’s where the power and action is. The fact that reporters, disproportionately, do not identify with the ideology doesn’t nullify this fact but paradoxically reinforces it”; and 3) “CPAC’s wild press popularity and attention has been driven by what we might call a tacit conspiracy of derp between the event organizers and the people who cover it. You be outrageous; we’ll be outraged.”

Those are as sensible as any other reasons. I suggest you read his entire post and read this 2009 post as well to determine what he means by saying DC is wired for Republicans.
