Super Bowl XLVIII dip

Every year but one since 1991 I have been attending a Super Bowl watchfest at the same place, and my responsibilities are always the same: bring chips and dip. Here’s this year’s concoction:

  • 6 oz. can crab
  • 8 oz. block cream cheese
  • 10.5 oz. can cream of mushroom soup
  • envelope unflavored gelatin
  • cup diced onion
  • .5 cup mayonaisse

Heat cream cheese, soup and gelatin, mixing till fully combined. Stir in balance of ingredients and chill.

Serve with crackers. You might want to garnish with something green, like scallion tops or something.

As far as the game goes, I think it could go either way. I don’t expect a blowout, which happened a lot during the first 40 years of the game (see the scores in this spreadsheet I created a few years ago). Even now the average point differential between the winning team and the losing one is still 14 points, thanks to the early years. Did you know only once has the game been decided by a single point? That was Super Bowl XXV in 1991 when the Bills’ Scott Norwood missed a field goal (Wide Right!) and the Giants escaped 20-19.
