Baseball’s Hall of Fame voters

They didn’t elect enough players, but then some of the baseball writers who have votes are troglodytes willing to accept rumor as basis enough to avoid voting for worthy individuals. The Hall of Fame really needs to weed out some of its voters and bring in some newer ones. The world of sportswriting has changed; hasn’t the Hall noticed there are fewer beat writers covering teams for daily newspapers nowadays?

Anyway, congratulations to Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and Frank Thomas. Condolences to Craig Biggio, who missed election by two votes. Vitriol and vituperation to the idiot who submitted a blank ballot and to the “principled” Ken Gurnick, who named only one player (Jack Morris — it didn’t help him get in) and left the rest off because “I don’t feel like I can vote for any of the players from that era.” He then said he’d abstain from voting in future Hall of Fame elections.

Then give your ballot back. And take the right to vote away from the fool who left his blank. It’s a trust, not a morality play.
