Shameful behavior, Victorino!

Shane Victorino of the Red Sox hit a grand slam home run in the 7th inning of Game Six of the ALCS tonight and the Red Sox bullpen made the 5 – 2 lead stand up. They’ll face the Cardinals in a rematch of three earlier World Series: 1946, 1967 and 2004. The Cards won in ’46 and ’67 but lost in ’04 as Boston buried its 86-year-long curse.

I don’t like either team very much, but after what the Cardinals and the press said about the Dodgers’ rookie outfielder Yasiel Puig’s demonstrative “antics” during the NLCS, I would appreciate it if they’d say the same thing about Victorino’s shocking behavior as he rounded the bases after his home run tonight.

The whining is horses***. A guy gets a big hit and he celebrates, and he’s got a right to do so. I didn’t think much of the Cardinals’ players or the St. Louis press (and other national media: I’m looking at you, Bob Nightengale of USA Today) and their holier-than-thou attitudes about “the right way to play the game.”

  1. Exactly! I never understood the whole thing where football players aren’t allowed to celebrate a touchdown, either. After the horrendous series Victorino had, he’d be inhuman not to be screaming and jumping for joy at a game-winning grand slam.
