This has to stop

Oh dear. She’s getting comfortable, but this is going too far.

When I went to bed she was on that rug on the floor next to the bed. I got up in the night and when I came back into the bedroom I found her up on the bed. It was 2:30 am and I didn’t feel like fighting, but I don’t want to share my bed with a 50-pound dog every night!

  1. They WILL claim beds as their own!
My cat sometimes tries to sleep on my arms while I’m at the computer at the desk typing! Wouldn’t want to see a dog try that!! ha ha ha

If you don’t want to lock the furry friend out of the bedroom, best to provide a pet bed in the bedroom. If she likes blankets so much, maybe have a few blankets that are distinctive in some way, and that she learns are just for her. She may still try her luck jumping on the bed, but after awhile she’ll probably stick to her own bed

I so highly recommend the episode of NOVA “Dogs Decoded” – (it’s available on Netflix, and possibly at a library – though they don’t have the episode online – I just checked).
There’s also a very interesting NOVA Science Now – with Neil Degrasse Tyson, from a couple of years ago, where Tyson “interviewed” this super border collie with a huge vocabulary of names for his toys.

I would recommend these even to people without dogs, or who have rather little interest in dogs! It’s just fascinating.

  2. She’s bonding with you. 😉 Besides the Nova special, I’d also recommend The Other End of the Leash by Patricia McConnell.
