I was listening to the UH baseball game on the radio on my way back from the store this afternoon when one of the broadcasters commented that it was a beautiful Sunday afternoon today. This led to a brief discussion:
Father (we have another father-son broadcast team out here besides the one I mentioned the other night): “There’s a song called Sunday Afternoon.”
Son: “Yes there is. Who sang that?”
Father: “Lovin’ Spoonful? I can’t remember.”
Son: “Me neither.”
Father “Sounds like something they’d sing.”
Don, for you and Scott, here’s the song you were thinking of: “Groovin’,” by The Little Rascals, from 1967.
Or they misremembered the Kink’s Sunny Afternoon as Sunday Afternoon.
At least it wasn’t Spanky and Our Gang’s “Sunday Will Never be the Same”.
