Abby update

Abby the dog apparently had a case of separation anxiety this afternoon. I was out at the grocery store and gas station for about 1 1/2 hours, and Mom tells me she ran all over the house looking for me. She even made it to the front door, which is a first. That offers a great view toward the street and the Waianae Mountains about 35 miles away, but she’s been leery of coming out from where the humans are until now. We’ll see how long it takes her to get over that.

We’re thinking she spent most of her life in an apartment or condo, because she’ll go out into the back yard on a leash with no argument at all, but she won’t leave the house unless I put that leash on. It may be that she just doesn’t understand the concept of a yard she can roam in with no restraint. She’ll eventually get over that too, I’m sure.

  1. Awe, it sounds like she likes being a companion dog!

At any rate, I know people who would argue that it’s not really separation anxiety unless she chews the leg off a table because you’re gone. LOL 😉

  2. If you have Amazon Prime, you might want to check the videos for Cesar Milan and his Dog Whisperer program. He can teach you how to understand Abby’s problems and help her cope with them. I watched his original programs back when Morgen (our German Shepherd) was young and was very satisfied with how well he responded to the training. You can get his books, but it really helps to actually see the dogs as they learn how to get along with us humans.
