Who’s worried about a primary challenge?

I’d suggest that Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is. He used to be semi-reasonable, but he’s gone over the top in his allegiance to right-wing memes these days. Despite Secretary Clinton’s five hours of testimony to the House and Senate foreign policy committees last week, the Senator isn’t happy.

“I haven’t forgotten about Benghazi. Hillary Clinton got away with murder, in my view,” Graham said on Fox News Monday evening, speaking to Greta Van Susteren. “She said they had a clear-eyed view of the threats. How could you have a clear-eyed view of the threats in Benghazi when you didn’t know about the ambassador’s cable coming back from Libya?”

To answer that last question, the Accountability Review Board specifically said

While we did not find that any individual U.S. Government employee engaged in willful misconduct or knowingly ignored his or her responsibilities, we did conclude that certain State Department bureau-level senior officials in critical positions of authority and responsibility in Washington demonstrated a lack of leadership and management ability appropriate for senior ranks

Senator Graham’s official biography makes no mention of his ever holding a management position in any organization, so I presume he’s divining how a Cabinet Secretary responsible for some 70,000 employees should have managed the departmental mailroom.

This is Lindsey Graham worried stiff that he’s not been as conservative as the loonies in South Carolina in the Republican and Tea Parties demand. Remember, SC is the state about which one of its former Attorney Generals once said “South Carolina is too small for a republic and too large for an insane asylum.” Senator Graham thus must needs make nice with those folks, no matter how idiotic it sounds to the rest of the country.
