Enough!

I think we have thirty years worth of clothing boxes in this room, relics of presents-buying pasts. We suffer from pack-rat-disease when it comes to boxes. “Save that; it’ll come in handy sometime” is our mantra. It’s idiotic, since usually if you buy a new top/shirt/blouse/slacks/dress at Macy’s/Sears/Nordstrom’s you can get a box at the time of purchase.

Before Thursday night I swear I’m going to fold up a bunch of these things and put them into the blue bin.

  1. How you made me laugh over this. You see, my mom always saved gift boxes–had a cubby hole upstairs in our house and they all went in there…….for years and years and years. So when we moved here and I had an attic, well, I started saving gift boxes……for years and years. About 5 years ago, Joe, who actually thought our attic was empty (we have lived here for 33 years) silly man–went up for something and said HOLY S*** where did all this stuff come from?? DUH! Anyway, younger son offered to clean out, redo the attic and sort through things. He decided we did not need to keep all those boxes I had saved so started throwing them down into the guest room from the attic. He FILLED the room right up to the windowsill!! And then he and Joe crushed them all and filled the recycling bins with them!! I took an oath not to save more than a very few each year and have sort of kept the promise. 😉

  2. I know that feeling. I recently collected the last items that I had had at my parent’s home. I’m seriously considering 1) selling some of the stuff at a local game store, 2) setting up my first yard sale when the weather gets warmer here (central IL), or 3) filling up my own blue bin several times over and letting the haulers deal with the items. Of course I have to be careful with what I dispose of as the state now has new restrictions on what can be placed in a landfill (such as most electronic items).
