Zee lab, master, zee lab!

This afternoon I had an appointment with the doctors at the ENT clinic. One of them poked, prodded, examined (with the miner’s headlamp and tongue depressors) and pronounced the result of the physical surgery itself good; it’s healing well. Then it was on to the results of the tissue exams at the pathology lab. As I said here, during the procedure they took some initial tissue from several locations. On two of the three sites there was no malignancy. On the third there was, and what tissue they took had it out to the margins of the sample, so they went back and took some more while I was still knocked out. The lab has now concurred that the second pass got it all with room to spare, so I appear to be home free (again).

I’m having a little pain on the tip of my tongue, of all places. The doctor says that’s not unexpected; there are a bunch of nerves which run along the outside of the tongue on each side and converge at the tip. It may take a while for that to go away. It’s controllable with acetaminophen (Tylenol), thank goodness, and I can take pills without any trouble, so no more of that bubble-gum stuff.

After this second experience within six months, I’m hopeful but cautious. How many bullets can one not named James Bond or John Wayne dodge?
