Weather near and far

The NYT’s Lede blog is collecting info from power and utility companies about what they are expecting from Hurricane Sandy. It’s being pointed out that long before it makes landfall the winds and storm surges may reach coastal areas.

Somebody named Tony Karon snarkily tweeted “Sandy’s disruption of electioneering is nature’s poetic rebuke to both candidates for their silence on climate change.” He’s got a point. I can see Romney and Obama trying hastily to propitiate the weather gods over the next week or so.

Meanwhile, there was a 7.7 earthquake off the shore of British Columbia about two hours ago and we’re under a tsunami warning for all islands in Hawai’i.

Exciting!

  1. I periodically subscribe to Tony Karon’s blog. He is a lefty journalist, a Jew raised in South Africa, which gives him a global perspective and a sharp eye for injustice. He’s also a soccer fanatic and can be very funny.

I tend to subscribe during soccer tournaments and unsubscribe when my Reader account gets too overwhelming.

  2. That’s a good word – “propitiate”. As I recall you live on hill, yes? Either way, good luck re the “T”.
