Republican Senators to Vets: Drop Dead

Nothing much surprises me about the Senate Republicans anymore, but I’d have thought approving a fully-funded jobs bill for Veterans would have been a pretty easy thing to choke down. After all, the Republicans have claimed to be the war national security party for the better part of 75 years now.

Ha. What do I know? Vet jobs bill fails in Senate.

I guess we vets and pregnant women have something in common: the Republicans love us while we’re carrying, be it arms or babies, but once we’re done, we’re on our own. NO HELP FOR YOU!

The recently-deceased blogger Mac Thomason, who hailed from Alabama and thus knew whereof he spoke, called Senator Jeff Session (R-Ala) an “evil little troll.” The Senator continues to live up to that term:

Murray and Nelson said the vote effectively kills the legislation, but Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee who raised the procedural objection, said the action simply requires the veterans committee to come back with a bill that does not add to the deficit. In an interview, he called Democratic claims that the Veterans Job Corps would not require additional funding “a gimmick.”

Personally, I’d take Senator Patty Murray’s word about the funding of this bill over Sessions’ word in a New York minute.
