In its appreciation of Hal David today, NPR told me “Promises Promises” (the musical) was his favorite work. “What’s It All About” from Alfie was supposedly his favorite song.

He wrote wonderful lyrics with Bacharach, and the obit is right; hardly a month went by in the late 1960s when you couldn’t find one of their songs at or close to the top of the charts.
