NBC Fail

In their infinite wisdom, the honchos at NBC decided that they would not live-stream the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics on any of their websites or on any of their network or cable channels, I assume for fear of cannibalizing their prime-time showing in the US this evening.

As my Internet acquaintance Tom Watson says at Forbes:

NBC was trending this afternoon on Twitter across the U.S. – and not because of some hilarious new sitcom. No, it’s the wired multitudes taking to that interconnected series of tubes to blab about the opening ceremonies of the London Olympics … and NBC’s shockingly unaware decision to black out – sorry, “delay” – the world’s most interesting and anticipated live event of the summer.

NBC does seem to have forgotten the Internet is alive with Twitter and Facebook, media which happily provided updates to the ceremonies as they occurred. For that matter, NBC seems to have forgotten there’s radio, which has also been describing the ceremonies every hour on the hour during newscasts.

Weirdly stupid, I call it.
