Medical test results

My mouth still hurts. I was given a batch of oxycontadone/acetaminophen pills (yeah, I didn’t know they could be combined either) to combat the pain, which seems to get worse in the late evening. It’s not affecting my sleeping, though.

The initial tests came back with enough unpleasant results that the doc wants me to have a PET/CT scan tomorrow. After the results from that are known we’ll know better how to proceed.

I really don’t want or need a whole bunch of sympathy comments at Facebook, so if you’re so moved, leave ’em here in the comments, please.

  1. Sorry to hear this, pal. Good luck with the scans tomorrow. Please update when you have more info.

  2. Pain hurts, so where the sympathy’s expressed matters less than the intent. That said, you did require us to do more than “dislike,” so you know there’s real sentiment there.

  3. Damn, Link, that stinks. The pain pills for my foot are a hydrocodone/acetominephine blend called Norco. Upset my stomach for a week, and led to strangely realistic dreams as well. Can you take an extra pill 2 hours before the time you start to have pain?
I hope tomorrow’s tests are easy, painless, and, most importantly, reassuring. What time do you head in, and how long will it take to know something?

  4. Thanks, folks.

I’m relatively calm about this so far. After the 10:30am appointment/imaging tomorrow I imagine it’ll take a day or two for the radiologists to read them and diagnose.

  5. OUCH, no fun. Hope all goes well tomorrow and you can get rid of the pain. Don’t forget to breathe during it all, as my yoga teacher always says. (And I think, if I don’t will the ambulance come. ;>))I know that this too will pass, and in the meantime to quote the great one “Keep calm and carry on” Sending positive thoughts and energy your way.

  6. I appreciate you sharing this, Steve. It is not easy to let others in on any medical process, known or unknown. You have my positive and healing thoughts.

  7. Oh crap, sorry for your pain and more so for your inconclusive results. We are hoping for your speedy recovery and total healing.

  8. Not good news, sorry to hear it. Definitely keep us posted. Total healing strongly wished.

    Those are heavy-duty pain pills.

  9. Steve, sorry to hear that you’re running the gauntlet here. Any biopsy taken from the mouth is rather unpleasant (for me, it was a chunk of my tongue, twice, since the ENT didn’t get enough of a sample the first time). PETs are fairly boring, since you’re basically just hanging around for about 40 minutes after they shoot you up with the tracer and you can’t do anything (even read), then have to lie very still for about 20 minutes while they move you in and out of the machine for the scan. On the upside, there’s no real pain involved unless you have an issue with needles, since they take your blood sugar reading and then of course they put the IV in for the injection.

Hope everything comes back clear in your case.

  10. OK, if you don’t want sympathy, I understand. But you probably need some competent nursing. Hedera, let’s head over to the Linkmeister compound! It’s in Hawaii, right? And he likes to bake bread and make pizza? We could at least keep him company.
We’ll be out on the deck, Steve. Let us know if you need anything! And I like olives on my pizza.

  11. Sounds awful Steve. Hoping for the best. Even if it’s all fine and benign, sounds like you went through a painful ordeal. To better days.

  12. I am glad they are doing quick follow-up, and I share everyone’s hopes that the outcome will be positive. I am sending warm wishes and lots of good juju your way.

  13. So sorry to hear about this complication. Hope everything goes well tomorrow. I had to have a CAT scan a year and a half ago. Fortunately, they let me listen to music through the headphones and that helped keep me calm as well as pass the time. Here’s wishes for quick results and a speedy recovery.

  14. Just saw this, catching up now that I am back on the east coast. Hope it all turns out well Steve, will be thinking of you.
