Eugene Polley, inventor of the wireless television remote control, has died at the age of 96, the Associated Press reported Tuesday. Polley died of natural causes on Sunday in a Chicago-area hospital.
I wonder how Mr. Polley felt about the broadening of American and international backsides which resulted from his invention.
It’s a helluva convenience, no question about that, but sometimes when there’s a power blip it drives me crazy. As happened this morning. I had to press the cable button, then the power button, then the TV button, then the power button. Only then would the TV turn on and show me a program. Try to remember that sequence when you’re in a fog and haven’t had coffee yet.
Ah well. Thank you, Mr. Polley.
