No Snowe

Senator Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, is retiring.

I can’t say I’ll miss her. She and her fellow Maine Senator, Susan Collins, have provided as much disappointment to Democrats over the past few years as any other Republican senators. They’re both “moderates,” but both have voted in lockstep with their more radical colleagues in the Senate nearly every single time an important issue has come up in that body. That’s why this statement from her rings false to me:

“Unfortunately, I do not realistically expect the partisanship of recent years in the Senate to change over the short term,” Snowe said in a statement.”

Madame Senator, you could have done something about that partisanship if you’d concluded that Senator McConnell’s vow to “make Obama a one-term President” was getting in the way of legislation that was good for the country. You did not.
