The House Republican leadership decided today that it would increase the deficit rather than tax millionaires in order to pay for the payroll tax extension.

Politically this makes sense, but it also goes to show how meaningless their fealty to deficit reduction is. They’d rather keep their wealthy buddies’ taxes low than pay for a tax cut for the middle class. Daddy Warbucks means more to them than Joe Sixpack does.
