Game 151, 2015

Diamondbacks at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ESPN

First, this is not good news:

The Diamondbacks start Chase Anderson (6-6, 4.52 ERA) against the perennial All Star To Be Determined (as of 1:45PM PT). Anderson is taking the place of Rubby De La Rosa, who’s had a tough time with the Dodgers this season (0-3, 11.21 ERA).

Lineup (and pitcher) when available.

Carlos Frias starts for the Dodgers.

Game 146, 2015

Pirates at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Zack Greinke goes for win number 18 against only three losses this season. He’s 12-1 with a 1.53 ERA over his last fourteen starts. He’ll face the Pirates’ Jeff Locke, who’s 8-10 with a 4.43 ERA but coming off an excellent start against the Brewers.

In case you missed it, the Dodgers designated Mat Latos for assignment.

Then there’s this:

Lineup when available.

In addition, they’ve activated Howie Kendrick from the DL, but since he hasn’t played any rehab games they’re going to go slowly with him.

Game 142, 2015

Dodgers at Diamondbacks, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FS-D

Zack Greinke (16-3, 1.68 ERA) goes for the Dodgers. He last faced the D-Backs on April 12 when he shut them out for seven innings, giving up only five hits and getting his first win of the year. He’ll face the left-handed Patrick Corbin (5-3, 3.32 ERA), who missed the first three months of the season while recovering from Tommy John surgery in March of 2014. Corbin has won his last two starts, although he’s not gotten past the sixth inning in either one.

Lineup:

Bonus coverage: Cory Seager on his first big league home run.

Bonus bonus coverage: Padres at Giants.

Game 137, 2015

Dodgers at Angels, 6:05PM PT, TV: SPNLA, FSW

Down I-5 (or maybe up, considering they just played four games in San Diego) to Anaheim, home of the Angels. Pujols and Trout versus Greinke and Kershaw. The Angels are 5-5 over their last ten games, which has left them 5 1/2 games behind the Astros in the AL West and 2 1/2 games behind in the race for the AL’s second Wild Card.

Today the Dodgers send Zack Greinke out in search of his 16th win to go along with his MLB-leading ERA of 1.59. The Angels send out Nick Tropeano, who’s had three separate single-game stints with the team earlier in the year and is a September call-up. He’s 1-2 with a 5.51 ERA in MLB this year. In his tours with the AAA Salt Lake City Bees he was 3-6 with a 4.81 ERA.

Odd fact: “The Angels lead the all-time series against the Dodgers, 57-46. But the Dodgers swept the Angels in August and have won the last six meetings.”

Lineup when available.

Game 131, 2015

Giants at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, CSN-BA

Bumgarner versus Greinke. If this were the opener of a playoff series the hype would hit Warp Six. Last year’s World Series MVP will pitch for the Giants against their ancestral enemy the Dodgers, who counter with this year’s leading Cy Young contender. Bumgarner won all five of his August starts with an ERA of 1.43; Greinke is 8-1 in his last ten starts and has the best ERA in MLB at 1.61.

Each manager is hoping his pitcher can go deep into the game, because bullpens on both sides were depleted in last night’s 14-inning affair. The Giants used eight pitchers in relief; the Dodgers used six. Here’s a shout-out to the Dodgers’ frequently-maligned Jim Johnson and Chris Hatcher, who combined for five spotless innings in the extra frames.

Lineup when available.

Look! Mattingly thinks he’s Tony LaRussa! Put the pitcher in the 8-hole, why not? I’m still wondering about the discussion in the dugout last night about pinch-hitting Kershaw or Greinke in the 11th inning; how hard did each of them lobby?

Game 126, 2015

Dodgers at Reds, 9:35AM PT, TV: SPNLA

Zack Greinke (13-3, 1.37 ERA) looks for win number fourteen in a rematch of the August 16 game he started against Reds’ right-hander Anthony DeSclafani (7-9, 3.97 ERA). The Dodgers won that one 2-1 thanks in part to a Greinke home run. DeSclafani did himself proud, though, going six innings, walking two and striking out six. If Greinke goes six innings or more in today’s game he’ll keep a streak alive: he’s gone at least that distance in all 25 starts he’s made this year.

Lineup when available.

Aug 22

Game 122, 2015

Dodgers at Astros, 4:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Zack Greinke has been emulating Superman recently. He’s made 11 consecutive starts without a loss, and he’s now 13-2 with an MLB-leading 1.58 ERA. He’s also the second-best hitting pitcher in the NL behind Madison Bumgarner of the Giants. His opponent will be left-handed Scott Kazmir (6-8, 2.43 ERA), who’s given up nine earned runs in his last three starts. He’s 1-3 with the Astros after coming over from the As at the trade deadline.

Lineup:

Puig’s back in right, Utley’s at second, and Kiké is in center. Van Slyke’s in left because Kazmir’s a lefty and neither Crawford nor Ethier hit southpaws well at all.

Aug 16

Game 118, 2015

Reds at Dodgers, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Two righthanders face off in the series finale. The Dodgers send Zack Greinke out in search of his 13th win to go along with his league-leading 1.59 ERA, and the Reds send out yet another rookie pitcher, their third in a row this weekend. This one is named Anthony DeSclafani. He’s 7-7 with a 3.75 ERA and has made 23 starts for the Reds this season. In his last four games he’s gone at least six innings and won two of them.

Greinke might want to pitch carefully to Joey Votto. The Reds’ first baseman is 10-24 with three HRs and four walks in his career against him.

Lineup when available.

Late breaking news, non-baseball variety: 8 lbs, 9 oz, 19.5″. Those are the vital stats on Kaden Isaiah Jansen, born at 9:58AM PT today.

Aug 11

Game 113, 2015

Nationals at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, MASN

“Zack, Save Us!” Well, maybe that’s overwrought. Nonetheless, the Dodgers are hoping that Zack Greinke, who’s 11-2 with a Major League-leading 1.71 ERA, can stop their four-game losing streak. If nothing else, they’re hoping he can get to the seventh or eighth inning so they don’t have to go to their beleaguered bullpen before then.

Greinke’s mound opponent will be rookie righthander Joe Ross, who’s 3-3 with a 2.80 ERA, 47 strikeouts and only four walks in 45 big league innings.

It’s Lakers Night at the ballpark, which is probably not as big a deal after the last two seasons the basketball team has had as it would be if we were still in the 1980s.

Lineup:

Aug 06

Game 108, 2015

Dodgers at Phillies, 10:05AM PT, TV: SPNLA, MLBN

Zack Greinke (10-2, 1.41 ERA) goes back to the hill for the Dodgers. The last time he faced the Phillies was July 9 when he went 8 innings and gave up 1 hit to them, striking out 8 and walking none. His opposition will be David Buchanan (2-5, 6.44 ERA), who pitched better than that record indicates in July. He got his two wins last month in 18 2/3 innings in which he gave up 7 runs, struck out 11 and walked only 3.

Lineup when available.
