Game 82, 2016

Rockies at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, ROOT Sports

The Rockies start Jorge De La Rosa (5-4, 6.47 ERA) against the Dodgers’ newly-acquired Bud Norris (3-7, 4.22 ERA). After a hiatus De La Rosa moved back into the rotation on June 14 and has won all three starts since while posting a 2.11 ERA, but he’s not made it past the sixth inning in any one of them. Norris had a bad two months to start the year with the Braves but has gone 2-1 with a 2.08 ERA in six appearances in June.

Pitchers’ history:

De La Rosa has faced the Dodgers 25 times in his career, opposing only the Padres, Giants and D-backs more. He has historically struggled against Los Angeles, holding a 5.22 ERA over 120 2/3 innings. However, he has a 3.90 ERA at Dodger Stadium and has a 2.87 ERA in his last five starts against the Dodgers, spanning back to August 2014.

[snip]

[Norris] is 2-1 with a 6.23 ERA in 10 games (five starts) against the Rockies in his career, but 13 of the 21 earned runs came at Coors Field.

Other news of note:

  • The Associated Press will begin using an automated writing service to cover more than 10,000 minor league baseball games annually, the news cooperative announced Thursday.”
  • Two nitwit Congresspeople (one of whom has now retracted her sponsorship) wrote legislation attempting to exclude Minor League Baseball from the Fair Labor Standards Act because the millionaires and billionaires who own MLB and pay the minor leaguers’ salaries don’t want those wages to be governed by labor law. Grant Bisbee rips the argument to shreds.

Also, Kershaw and Pederson have been placed on the 15-day disabled list and Will Venable has been brought up.

All Star Game voting ends at midnight ET. Vote often (well, up to 35 times)!

Game 145, 2015

Rockies at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Just as last night, two lefties take the mound against one another this evening in the rubber match of the series. Alex Wood (10-10, 3.81 ERA) goes for the Dodgers, trying to recover from his worst outing since he joined the team in July. In that one he went only 1 2/3 innings and gave up home runs to two Diamondbacks. His Rockies’ opponent will be Jorge De La Rosa (9-6, 4.28 ERA). Somehow he’s pitched enough against the Dodgers to achieve a 7-10 lifetime record against them.

Lineup when available.

If I’m Wood I’m wondering if I need to throw a shutout to win.

No, no, that’s not fair. Most of those guys can hit perfectly well.

Games 51 & 52, 2015

Game 1, Dodgers at Rockies, 12:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA. This is a makeup game for one that was postponed due to weather on May 9.

Juan Nicasio is 1-1 with a 1.29 ERA in 16 games and 21 innings. He’s struck out 28 and walked 11 in those appearances, all in relief. His longest stint has been 3 inning on May 2. He’ll face Jorge De La Rosa, who’s 1-2 with a 6.51 ERA and no appearances since May 21 due to a cut finger.

Lineup:

Game 2, Dodgers at Rockies, 5:40PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Zack Greinke is 5-1 with a 1.48 ERA.

Over his previous five starts — a stretch that’s covered 34 1/3 innings — Greinke owns a 1.05 ERA and has yielded just five runs (four earned). He’s struck out 31, walked only seven and hasn’t given up more than one run in a start since April 29.

His opponent will be David Hale, who’s 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his only game in the big leagues this year. He went 6 2/3 innings.

Lineup:

Game 36, 2015

Rockies at Dodgers, 6:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Note the early game time. Since the two teams play again tomorrow, this isn’t the day before a travel day. I thus have no idea why it’s starting an hour earlier than usual. The Old-Timers Game is scheduled for 4:00PM.

It’ll be Zack Greinke (5-0, 1.52 ERA) for the Dodgers against Jorge De La Rosa of the Rockies.(0-2, 9.56 ERA). De La Rosa went only four innings against the Dodgers last Sunday, giving up five hits, five earned runs, six walks, and striking out four. With all of that, he didn’t take the loss in the Mother’s Day game the Dodgers eventually won.

Lineup:

Hmm. That’s a different outfield.

Game 30, 2015

Dodgers at Rockies, 5:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA, MLBN

Clayton Kershaw makes his fourth try to win career number 100 this evening, weather permitting. He’s won six straight against the Rockies and has a 1.62 ERA over those games. He’s 14-5 with a 3.11 ERA in his career against the Rockies and is 7-3 at Coors Field, posting a 4.58 ERA. His opponent will be Jorge De La Rosa, who has 45 lifetime wins at Coors, more than any other pitcher in the history of the stadium. De La Rosa started the year on the DL, however, and he’s 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA after coming off it.

In outfielder news, Yasiel Puig tweaked his hamstring in a rehab game with Rancho Cucamonga Friday night.

Lineup when available.

The weather is not looking good, unless you’re a skier/snowboarder.

Continued rain today will increase the possibility of flash flooding throughout the urban corridor and plains. Residents should be on alert for flooding in their vicinity after heavy rains pass over. The far eastern plains could see severe weather with increased heating. Chances for large hail and tornadoes increase by this afternoon. For the mountains, the snow level will be around 9000ft lowering to 7000ft by this evening. Areas above 9000ft could see 2 to 6 inches by this afternoon with another 4 to 10 inches overnight. Mountain roads will be slushy and snow packed by this evening.

Okay, lineup for today’s game:

The weather is forecast to be in the low 40s with a small chance of rain.

No explanation given for Ethier’s absence in right field, nor for Uribe’s absence at third base. It could just be that the Rockies’ pitcher De La Rosa is a lefty.

Game 152, 2014

Dodgers at Rockies, 12:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Carlos Frias makes his second start for the Dodgers after being called up from Albuquerque for a second time this season on September 2. His first start was on September 3, when he pitched six innings of 3-hit ball in a game the Dodgers eventually lost to the Nationals in 14 innings. He’s 0-0 with a 3.91 ERA. His opponent will be Jorge De La Rosa, who’s 13-11 with a 4.28 ERA. Pitching at Coors Field, though, De La Rosa is 44-14 in his career.

Lineup when available.

Update: Well, in light of that eight-run disaster of a first inning, we’d better hope the Diamondbacks beat the Giants this afternoon.

Game 90, 2014

Dodgers at Rockies, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Dan Haren’s record of 8-4 with a 3.57 ERA would look very good on most teams. His last start was probably his best of the season, and he says he’s just trying to keep up.

“I’ve been on good staffs, but it’s tough to hold my weight here,” Haren said. “Every time out the guys are dealing. I’ve just tried to maintain the momentum and haven’t done that until [the last start].”

His pitching opponent today will be Jorge De La Rosa, who gave up eight runs to the Dodgers the last time he faced them in June, when he lost to Kershaw in the no-hit game. Lefty De La Rosa is 8-6 with a 4.86 ERA.

Believe it or not, the Dodgers have made it to 50 wins this season faster than all but two other teams — the As lead the AL West with 53 and the Brewers (the Brewers?) are atop the NL Central with 51.

Game 74, 2014

Rockies at Dodgers, 7:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Colorado sends lefty Jorge De La Rosa and his 6-5, 4.12 ERA to the mound to face the Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw, who is 6-2 with a 2.93 ERA.

Can the Dodgers finally be getting onto some kind of a roll? They’ve won 8 of their last 12 and 4 of 5 on this homestand.

This should affect the lineup: “Kemp is hitting .419 with three homers and 10 RBIs against De La Rosa. Adrian Gonzalez is right behind him against the Rockies left-hander at .361, also with three homers and 10 RBIs.” Maybe facing this guy will help Adrian break out of his slump.

Shortly after the game last night Hanley Ramirez tweeted the following:

Game 64, 2014

Dodgers at Rockies, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

Kershaw v. Jorge De La Rosa. Clayton has a career 5-3 record at Coors Field, but that’s with a 5.24 ERA. De La Rosa is a lefty, and the Dodgers have had trouble with guys who throw from that side all year (207/.338/.282 slash line).

No Gordon (hip), no Puig (hip), no Ethier (see: lefthanded starter), no Turner (unknown). This is a makeshift lineup indeed!

Game 26, 2014

Rockies at Dodgers, 1:10PM PT, TV: SPNLA

It’s a battle of lefties this afternoon. Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-1, 2.12 ERA) is on the bump (I keep hearing that term for the mound from our local TV sportscasters, who must have gotten it from somewhere) for the Dodgers against the Rockies’ Jorge De La Rosa (1-3, 6.38 ERA).

For an added attraction,

A victory would be the 10,000th in Dodgers franchise history, according to Elias Sports Bureau. Only the Giants, Cubs and Braves have reached that plateau.

The Yankees haven’t? Really? Not quite. They’ve got 39 wins to go. As Dodgers Insider has pointed out, the Dodgers’ records and Elias’s differ by 13 wins.
