  1. Buehler using up all his pitches in one inning. Someone should tell him it’s better to spread them out over multiple innings.

  2. With Fillies leading 1-0 in top of ninth, their CF had a deep fly ball in the glove but came down on top of fence and it fell out and over. Devil Rays tied it, but their bullpen then blew it.

  3. Apparently the Cubs pen has been one of the best ones the last few months. But Dodgers trying to give it a go here.

  4. Need 4 through 9 to contribute. The top 3 have been setting the table (and Mookie driving them in as well).

    • My first was a Koufax shutout of Houston (not yet the Trashtros) in 1966. Second game of the DH was also a shutout (Joe Moeller, IIRC).

    • You say that like it was his intention. I’m guessing he knew what the situation warranted but just missed on the execution.

  5. Not walking guys at this point, but doesn’t seem to have the command yet to put them away as in the past.

  6. Walker must be so frustrated. I can’t tell if he is quite close to being very solid (but not yet spectacular) or still struggling. A bit of both I suppose – which is why he must be frustrated.

  7. Hendricks for the Cubs is following in Bob Hendley’s footsteps so far tonight.

Unfortunately, Buehler is not Koufax-esque this evening.

      • Sorry. I’m actually not down on him but was bracing for the criticism I thought he might get. It was actually a preemptive defence.

        • Ah yes, he does get a lot of criticism around here. Had a terrible first half so tough for him to overcome that. People don’t like his batting approach that’s for sure. Oh and the contract.

  8. Interesting to hear from AF on the tv broadcast. He figures both Yamamoto and Glasnow will have a good chance to be back and ready to go for the playoffs.

  9. The legendary Ed Kranepool has died at 79. When he first appeared for the Mutts, in their inaugural season of 1962, he was 17 years old.

  11. Today in Dodgers History
    September 9th

1948 At the Polo Grounds, 23-year-old right-hander Dodger Rex Barney no-hits the Giants, 2-0. Before completing the gem, the Brooklyn starter endures a one-hour rain delay and showers in the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings.

1965 "And there's 29,000 people in the ballpark and a million butterflies." – VIN SCULLY, setting the stage in the ninth inning of Sandy Koufax's gem.

At Dodger Stadium, Sandy Koufax throws a perfect game against the Cubs, the southpaw's record fourth no-hitter, beating Bob Hendley's one-hit effort, 1-0. In the fifth inning, the Chicago left-hander gives up an unearned run, yielding the game's only hit in the seventh-inning double to Lou Johnson on a ball that barely rolls to outfield grass.

2013 Juan Uribe homers in his first three trips to the plate in the Dodgers' 8-1 victory over Arizona. Los Angeles goes yard six times in the Chavez Ravine contest, falling two shy of the franchise record established in 2002.
