Hey, Ohio Dodger, thanks for bringing back the Today in Dodgers History feature. I need to add one thing. Today is 69 years since I attended my first MLB game, as a 7-year-old at Ebbets Field. The Pirates beat the Dodgers, 7-5, in the first game of a DH. The Dodgers got four in the first, including two on a homer by Carl Furillo. Roberto Clemente, a rookie, batted leadoff for Pittsburgh and tripled twice. Jackie Robinson pinch hit and grounded out. Ron Kline over Ed Roebuck. My dad and I didn't stay for the second game because the family was moving to L.A. nine days later and there was much to do. I still have the program. It cost 10 cents.
Wonderful history.
My pleasure Scoop. What a wonderful memory. Thanks for sharing. I wish I could have seen Ebbets Field.
It was a day I will never forget. We drove to Ebbets Field in the 1950 Hudson Hornet my parents had bought that year, 1955, for the upcoming cross-country drive. My parents wanted my sister, who was 11, and me to see the country, so the trip took 17 days. My mom had learned to drive only that year. Dad hadn't driven since he was a supply sergeant in the Army in Europe in World War II, so my parents avoided any highway that came anything close to being a thruway. Lots of two-lane roads, inexpensive motels, and playing catch with my dad after we checked into a motel.
Awesome.
Coulda been so much worse.
Walks will kill you. But, he minimized the damage.

I’m home! Got back around 11:15, so not too bad.
And the same to you and everyone else.
Well, mercifully it is over. Happy 4th of July everyone…
The least propitious 4th ever.
Good thing it only counts as one loss.
Outscored 11-0 since the first inning and outhit 15-2. Maybe I should have tried to umpire a third youth game tonight.
Not our finest game.
The first inning was cool!
Yes it was. Seems like an eternity ago.
Let’s get a couple just so we can come back tomorrow with a little momentum. (I’m not holding my breath.)
What would Drysdale do?
Chin music?
It’s like Lucy and the football. Unreal.
Miserable.
Shall I stay until the bitter end? Yes, I shall.
I'm with you.
Yep. Like that. Sigh.
We’re gonna need a bigger bullpen…
For whatever reason DBacks have our number today. 14 hits!
One hit since the first inning? Really?
Walker killed us. Actually, they are all killing us.
Just finished umpiring a youth doubleheader. I looked at the line score here. This one just continued slip-sliding away.
Came out guns ablazing and then folded our tents.
All Star break can't get here soon enough. Our bullpen is gassed and needs a rest.
Whew. Still a ray of hope.
Dimming fast. But you never know.
Dangerous. Intentional walk equals intentional insult.
Should have been intentionally walking Walker.
I agree.
What are the guys saying about this move?
That’s weird. Mid-batter?
The crowd has been silenced by their offense.
Have you partaken of the Dodger Stadium cuisine?
Just a churro tonight. Yum.
They are seriously outhitting us. Up and down the line.
Don’t walk the lead off batter!!! Sheesh!
Wasted opportunity.
Maybe next inning.
It feels longer than that.
Maybe it already is
I’m here. So there.
A midnight drive home
I pray it won’t go that late. My butt is numb as it is.
I assume you will get fireworks after the game.
Not tonight. Tomorrow night, yes.
We're getting them tonight, and that's a bad thing.
This could be the longest game of the year.
Let the comeback begin!
9th inning magic
6, 7, 8 magic.
We haven’t had a hit since the first innning! What the heck?
PFFFFFFT!!
This sucks.
Still doable.
Walker is unreal against us.
Pffft.
Rally Time!! Clap…Clap.
Taylor got hosed.
Indeed.
Good grief. Why do we pitch to Walker?
The night is still ridiculously young.
Well, Walker should only get three more ABs…
Ack!!
¡Un verdadero miércoles!
Rats
Indeed.
Dang
That last ball was maybe a gift?
Yep. At least this ump makes bad calls both ways.
I am enjoying this Mookie in the booth thing.
Better than the miked-up players on the field, at least.
If the game continues at its current pace it will be a 3.75 hour game.
Well, it was a shut down inning the hard way.
Stoner struggles, but gets it done. Unlikely to go deep tonight.
49 pitches thru 2 innings. Be lucky to get 5 from him tonight.
Yarbrough time!
Deep into pitch count
Whew!!!
One more Stoney.
YES!
Joc coming to the plate
Stone made good pitches to Joc.
Come on, Gavin.
Good glove Migs!
OK Stoney. Shut down inning.
Is the Dbacks pitcher a rookie? Feels like his first game.
I think it is. 21 years old.
Ball be flying tonight.
TEO!!!
Wah-Ooh!!!
FREDDIE!!!!!
Gavin. Not so sharp so far.. I’m at the game. But I got’to see Gagne throw out a pitch.
Did he throw his circle change?
Barves swat Gnats 3-1 in Atlanta, Llaneros have Fryers in the skillet, 4-3 after 4-1/2.
Today in Dodgers History
July 3rd
1925 Milt Stock sets a National League mark by having his fourth consecutive four-hit game, going 16-for-23 to compile a .696 batting average during the streak. The 31-year-old second baseman's offensive output, which includes three singles and a triple, helps the Robins beat the Giants at Ebbets Field, 6-3.
1949 At the Polo Grounds, New York southpaw Monty Kennedy, en route to a 16-0 rout of the Dodgers, hits a grand slam. Another 51 seasons will pass before Shawn Estes becomes the next Giants hurler to go deep with the bases loaded in 2000.
1958 In their 35th home date in Los Angeles, the transplanted Dodgers reach the one million mark in attendance. Last season, the team drew only 1,028,258 fans, playing games at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City (NJ) and Brooklyn's Ebbets Field.
2013 Yasiel Puig becomes the first player named Player of the Month in the first month he plays in the major leagues in the 55-year history of the award. The Dodger outfielder played in 26 games in June, compiling a .436 batting average, with his 44 base hits being the second-most ever by a first-month player, only behind Joe DiMaggio's total of 48 in 1936.
Unbelievable. Just walk the ……….

Joe getting the night off
Llaneros fall to Fryers, but at least Gnats lost.
Bullpen warming
To be expected.
Batting practice.
That CGSO took a lot out of him, apparently.
Rats!! Right down the middle.
Yecch
