Dodgers at Cardinals, 4:15 PM PDT, TV: Fox
RHP Noah Syndergaard (1-3, 5.94 ERA) pitches for the Dodgers and RHP Miles Mikolas (2-1, 4.91 ERA) does so for the Cardinals. I notice on Mikolas’s player page at MLB that his nickname is 5280’s; I wonder what the backstory is.
- 1979 Don Sutton becomes the franchise’s winningest pitcher when he is credited with the victory, tossing eight innings in the Dodgers 6-4 victory over the Reds at Riverfront Stadium. The 34 year-old right-hander’s 210th win surpasses the team mark established in 1969 by Don Drysdale.
During yesterday’s game the Dodgers’ broadcasters mentioned the speed of Jordan Hicks’s pitches. Back in 2018 Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks equals Aroldis Chapman’s mark for the fastest pitch known in baseball history when he throws a pair of pitches clocked at 105 mph in the team’s 5-1 victory over the Phillies at Busch Stadium. The 21-year-old Redbird rookie right-handed reliever had never appeared in a game above Class A before starting the season with St. Louis this year. As we all know, speed alone doesn’t make you successful; his career record is 8-15 with a 4.15 ERA and 20 saves, and he’s had his troubles this season as well.
Lineups when available.

Total crap. Mookie called out on ball 4.
Terrible call.
MLB should be embarrassed.
Fox here has decided I should watch the Mariners – Braves game. Grumble. And the radio isn”t playing the Dodgers either. What IS this?
Operative word = Fox
The radio guys have replaced the Dodgers with that other LA team that’s facing disaster if it doesn’t win today: the Lakers.

Yuck
Smith and Betts robbed by umpire.
Last out strike outs should be reviewable just in case ump make egregious call.
Yes. Games should not end on bad calls. Especially since we have the technology to get it right.
11 AM game on the West Coast tomorrow.
Drat it, Mookie.
Mookie, Mookie, lend me your … home run?
Scratching back!
Ack! Live by the 3-run HR, die by the 3-run HR.
Defensive positioning still working without the shift
WOW!!
Thor settling down. Three outs away from QS.
And top of the lineup knocking on the door.
And there we go!
Good play calling. Do more this inning.
No Outman, no Smith, no runs.
Looked safe to me.
Non-NYC opinion.
Right on cue, KT3 with a SO.
Not looking good.
Oh, the backstory on the “5280’s” nickname is a play on Mikolas’s first name Miles, of course. 5,280 feet to a mile.
Gonna need a miracle to win this game.
Only down three runs. Why so pessimistic?
You’re kidding. Thor and the bottom half of our lineup.
Well, could have been much worse.
This could get ugly quick.
Got out of it cheap.
I’ve never liked Alex Rodriguez much, but I like him more after hearing this bit of analysis. “Kershaw is like Michael Jordan.”
Huh? Listen to the clip.
Couldn’t get it to play. An “Insider” thing?
I dunno. There’s no “share” button on the video, just on the article that contains it: https://www.foxsports.com/stories/mlb/clayton-kershaw-pitching-days-after-mothers-death-deserves-a-historic-ovation
