Dodgers at Brewers, 10:40 PM PDT, TV: BS Wisconsin, MLBN (out-of-market only), SPNLA
LHP Clayton Kershaw (5-2, 2.53 ERA) goes for the Dodgers and LHP Wade Miley (3-1, 2.31 ERA) goes for the Brewers.
- 1953 With a double and home run, Roy Campanella drives in all the runs in the Dodgers’ 5-0 victory over the Phillies at Ebbets Field. Campy’s total of 40+ RBIs in the first 30 games will not be matched until Tino Martinez accomplishes the feat in 1997 with the Yankees.
- 1955 Dodger right-hander Don Newcombe faces only 27 batters when he one-hits Chicago at Wrigley Field, 3-0. Gene Baker, who will be thrown out trying to steal second base, ruins Newk’s bid for perfection, with a fourth-inning single.
Other historical notes: on this day in 1909 Fred Toney completes the longest no-hitter in organized baseball history, a 1-0 victory over the Lexington Colts of the Blue Grass League. As word spread around town about the Class D Winchester Hustlers right-hander’s performance on the mound, fans continued to stream into the ballpark before the lone run of the contest scored on a squeeze play in the bottom of the 17th. And if you thought the Phillies’ Ben Chapman was bigoted only toward African-Americans, think again. On this date in 1934 Chapman, who will lead the protest against Jackie Robinson in 1947, harasses a Jewish fan during a Yankees’ 13-3 victory of the White Sox at the Bronx ballpark. The New York left fielder shouts disparaging epithets and taunts the team’s supporter with Nazi salutes.

NPUT
This is interesting;
JD Martinez last appeared in a game for the Dodgers on April 23rd.
In the fifteen games the Dodgers have played since the 23rd,
the Dodgers are 11-4
Kersh gets #203. Good game boys.
Next game Friday night at Dodger Stadium.
Yahoo!
Woo-HOO!
I wonder why Roberts pinch-hit for Trayce. He’s not getting any playing time at all recently.
Good question.
Mookie getting looks at SS and Outman becoming a full time CF certainly reduces his opportunities.
Suero proof?
Por el momento.
Meanwhile, Kersh just keeps ticking along. 7 K in 6 innings, 5 hits but just one run and lowering his ERA.
Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’.
Head’em Up, Move’em Out.
Kersh saving the day with the depleted bullpen.
Rookie magic happening again.
Barnesie and Kersh make a good pitcher-catcher team.
A.J. must be jealous.
He’s working for the Padres now. I wonder what he thinks of the attempted manufacture of a rivalry between the two teams.
Guessing he wasn’t too happy with the scoreboard display of his buddy.
Vargas está calentándose.
Nice to see the Vargas power surge.
9 of last 10 hits have been extra (special).
Vamoose!!
VARGAS!!!
Take that, Weimer!
Ump not giving Kersh the same wide zone…
That is what is the most aggrevating. If you are going to be bad, at least be consistent.
Nor the high or low.
Clutch!!
4-1! Woot!
Tack more on!
As the Swedes would say…
Blue has a high strike zone and a low strike zone.
A pair of Jacks to open.
The kind of Jumbos I prefer.
Back-to-back!
Willie whomps one.
Freddie goes yard!
Scattered-eyed ump.
By European standards, today’s game starts at a reasonable hour.
