Rockies at Dodgers, 7:10 PM PDT, TV: ATT SportsNet-RM, SPNLA
RHP Germán Márquez (1-0, 3.00 ERA) takes the mound for the Rockies and LHP Julio Urías (1-0, 3.00 ERA) does the same for the Dodgers.
On this date in Dodger history:
- 1968 Due to today’s assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, most major league teams postponed their Opening Day games for five days, resuming after the reverend’s funeral in five days. Surprisingly, at first, the Dodgers are the notable exception, even though the Phillies, their opponents on April 9, say they will forfeit rather than play on the national day of mourning.
- 2016 The Dodgers hand the Padres the worst Opening Day shutout loss since at least 1913, and most likely in the game’s history, blanking the Friars at Petco Park, 15-0. The contest marked both skippers’ managerial debut, with LA’s Dave Roberts and San Diego’s Padres Andy Green piloting their first major league game.

The Athletic notes: Elehuris Montero, Tuesday at Dodger Stadium, went down in history as the first Strikeout Not Looking ever awarded for trying to call timeout twice in the same at-bat! Sorry, Elehuris. Only one TO per customer these days, so next time, remember to count to two.
But notice what Julio does when strike three is called and listen to Orel. Urías starts to throw the ball to third or short, and Orel asks “Do they throw the ball around?”

Someone commented, elsewhere, that a pitcher might have an immaculate inning throwing only six pitches – or perhaps even zero?
Truth in labelling! https://www.sfgate.com/giants/article/sf-giants-misspelled-official-hat-17880300.php
Yikes. Thought Mookie was going to be able to avoid Heyward completely but not quite. Hope he is alright.
That was scary.
And all those fans with gloves in left field bleachers couldn’t catch it.
The catch by the young lady last night was quite something
Yep. She done good.
It was one of ESPN’s Top 10 plays on SportsCenter last night.
It was a Gold Glove play.
Against the Snakes, the Paddies melted down in the late innings, blowing a 5-1 lead to lose 8-6. Pending tonight’s outcome, Dodgers have sole occupancy of first place.
Paddies had a 5-1 lead, but they’re melting down in the late innings.
At The Litterbox this afternoon, Machado got rung up for failing to get set in the box in time. He then got tossed for arguing the call.
What was his argument, that the clock was wrong?
Ha!
He called time out at 7.5
His argument was, and I quote, that the umpire was “a douchebag.”
Analysts singing Julio’s praises.
Are they pitchy?
Excellent.
Loney commenting after the game. So great to see him!
I missed that. An old favorite.
2.5 hour game. I love that i can hear it all regularly now.
Dodgers all alone in first place.
Easy breezy.
Ballgame.
Woo-HOO!!!
Dodgers win!
We got this.
Turn the bulbs out Phillips
Sac fly. One more out. Blackmon up. Tension again.
Speaking of not liking Colorado right now – Winnipeg being hit by a Colorado low and could receive 25 cm of snow by end of tomorrow.
Crazy spring.

Ha! Well, thanks for all the Arctic vortexes!
*Vortices
Thanks, though MW told me both were acceptable.
Tension.
We need one of those DPs please.
What a farce.
Maybe the ump has relatives in Colorado?
UMP!!!!
We want those too!
Closer than the other two called strikes!
Mookie woulda had that.
Glad he didn’t try!
Funny.
Heyward a bit slower than in his heyday.
Weird and wild inning – and that’s just the home plate ump I’m talking about.
Unbelievable.
Robo Umps can’t get here soon enough.
Looked kinda like ball 4 to me.
Need to be a bit more emphatic than that.
LOOKED KINDA LIKE BAll 4 TO ME
Wow. Muncy was hosed.
Max jobbed
Love that phrase but not that call.
Willy Dilly.
Betts looked better going from 2nd to home than home to 2nd.
KT3.
You can take a right fielder out of right, but you can’t take right out of a right fielder.
Only if he is in his right mind. Am I right?
Righto
Oui
Mookie should know that’s the outfielder’s ball.
More than anyone.
Oh baby. Nice DP
Freeman is amazing.
Max saved by the DP.
Very uneven night for Max.
Max is so clunky tonight. Wow.
Okay bullpen, do your job.
Muncy looks heavier this year.
Mr. Hand!
Willy Wheels.
Nice inning, Julito!
Muncy better on that play.
Nice play CT3. And Fredrick
KT3. Saw that coming.
Sounds like AZ ran on SD for their win. Know the feeling.
Rick actually had a good observation. You could now get an immaculate inning with 6 pitches.
The better piece of his three perfect outcome repertoire.
That is why he is tolerable at 3rd base.
Maximum!
Nice job Freddie.
Here’s fan Jennifer’s catch in the bleachers yesterday.
Nice shorts.
I wonder if in time they will credit these kinds of Ks differently?
Dodgers lead MLB in homers and walks, sayeth Joe.
What about Ks
And run differential I believe….
And the HR total grows tonight.
What to do with Heyward? Good guy. Good defense. Maybe Betts better hit more.
BTW, thanks Cubs
Thanks for the hyperbole…
It pairs well with Lone Star
The outfield likes hitting the dingers this week.
So does the catcher
JayHey!
SA-WEET!!
Let’s get the DP now
Good call.
Like I said–serviceable.
Rut-Row.
Shaggy
Max didn’t help his pitcher there.
Beachball sighting
That was a real double by Roxs.
A good way not to lose 2-1: Start off with a 2-0 lead.
Hi’Ya Dave.
A Willy Dilly. WOOT!!
Double my a__. That was a Muncy error. A half decent 3rd baseman makes that play easily.
Muncy at 3rd is shaky.
He’s a good 3B, but so far he hasn’t shown it.
Only if he OPS’s .850 or better.
He is serviceable and will cost the Dodgers a couple of wins defensively.
Vargas is faster and will cover more ground at second but might not have the reflexes for hot corner. Vargas might move to third next year if Lux comes back strong and if Dodgers trade for a shortstop.
Matt Chapman is a free agent next year.

Not what we grew accustomed to, that’s for sure.
Max a decent 2nd baseman. Guess they figure that he is too slow in shiftless baseball. Don’t recall Vargas being lauded as a good fielding 3rd. So here we are.
A conundrum.
And away we go.
Gleason?
Yep.
To the moon
Alice. One of these days. Pow
