Dodgers at Phillies, 4:10 PM PDT, NBCSP, SPNLA
The visiting Dodgers send LHP Julio Urías (2-3, 3.00 ERA) to the Citizens Bank Park hill to face the Phillies’ LHP Ranger Suãrez (4-1, 3.72 ERA). These two pitchers met one another at Dodger Stadium on May 14, and Urías had a horrible game, giving up 8 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits in six innings. Suãrez got the win, giving up 3 runs on 5 hits while going seven innings.
The Phillies’ Bryce Harper won’t be playing right field for the next several months with his elbow troubles.
Today in Dodgers’ history:
- 1979 Don Sutton becomes the franchise’s winningest pitcher when he is credited with the victory, tossing eight innings in the Dodgers 6-4 victory over the Reds at Riverfront Stadium. The 34 year-old right-hander’s 210th win surpasses the team mark established in 1969 by Don Drysdale.

Both the Pads and the Gnats tried hard to give it away last night, but the Gnats were the ones who finally succeeded in doing so. Meanwhile, top “prospect” Joey Bart went 2-for-2 in K’s and now has 39 in 71 ABs (.549 percentage).
Simply too many Ks for CT3. Entered the game fourth in the NL with 48; Bellinger sixth with 46.
49 K in 118 AB. 41%. 15 BB.
Dodgers can’t lose any ground tonight, but Pads have taken an early 3-1 lead over the Gnats at Software Stadium.
Woo-HOO!!!
Game over!
Ballgame!!! Good job.
Dodgers win!
Man, I am so ready for the pitch clock. This last inning is taking forever.
Kimbrel worries me just as Jansen did.
Yep.
Said of every closer but Mario
Gagne
Yep
Remember Takashi Saito. 2006-2008. He was pretty lights out.
Smiling Sammy.
Yep.
Former teammates chatting at first.
Bick not as sharp as last year.
Looked safe in real time.
It would be a great ending.
In slo-mo, not so much.
Stupid baserunning by Realmuto, even if the call stands.
…
Nice play by Trea.
Now we need tres outs
Is everybody healthy and wise this season?
Yes, but not wealthy.
Hi
Bums!
I’ve been doing lots of taping and fast forwarding.
Running on Realmuto is a thing apparently.
Insurance runs would be nice.
Freddie delivers.
Like FTD.
What’s with the camouflage caps?
You are not supposed to see them.
Ha!
Military Appreciation Week baseball-wide.
7 walks and 8 hits and only 3 runs. 8 SO don’t help.
Could be worse – it could be four hits and zero walks with eight K’s.
8 LOB for Taylor tonight…
Composite player’s LOB: Dodgers 22 – Phillies 6.
1 for 7 RISP. Needs improvement.
Khris!
Davis?
KT3
He is struggling badly.
Almonte the new Brazoban.
Guessing that they have decided to keep Julio under 90 pitches for at least the first half of the season
Other things being equal equal, I’d have left Julito in.
We need to be adding on runs against this bullpen..
David Remnick remembers Roger Angell at the New Yorker.
Get a run in Chris.
Not a K, but…
A fail.
This screenshot came up on my photo feed a few days back – from 3 years ago. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/7c6b7f61a3d9fd8fee60936b8be8c5ff2510082d2b3cdbeccafcd39f060e7def.jpg
He’ll not be back again. Belli will never be the same.
Over the longer run, nobody is as good as those numbers.
Maybe Ted Williams. But, not sustainable for an extended period.
Will Suarez hit 90 in 3 innings?
Not quite, but he should make 100 in the fourth.
Nope. Won’t get the chance.
Color me disappointed. I wonder what the record is for three IP.
Good question
Here’s a sample of pitches in one inning. The record, however, appears to be 62 by Russ Ortiz of the Gnats, when Dusty managed them. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b357e6e6b789f3bf222ec8ddf82f3515ff0e3cd86ddde42898e39efb1ff748e0.png
Brad Asmus was a patient manager.
Or a serial abuser.
Skilled in triage.
Oh, one inning! Dusty!
Not in a single inning.
Refresh is your friend (actually mine).
Yeah along with 28 pitches per inning, he was giving up a run per inning
Actually he is done and the bullpen begins it’s night early.
The pitch count through 2 innings is like a bad basketball game: 67-33
I still find it hard to believe that we have Freeman.
I’m Telling You Now.
FO did good
Freddy en fuego.
Nice start to this one.
Freddie delivers!
Freeman does the Freddie! (May not be understood by you youngsters out there.)
Freddie and the Dreamers
Like doing a jumping Jack, as I recall.
One leg at a time.
Coming in Freddie with RISP, OPS 1.097. Red actually leads the team at 1.112.

Would be cool if they played it at Dodger Stadium and people got up and did it.
Suarez close to 60 pitches.
No eyes, no ears, but I am guessing that it was a high, hard one that got Cody. That’s his Achilles’ Heel.
Foul tip of a 92 mph sinker that was near the middle of the zone.
47 SO in 133 AB. 35% 12 BB,
Joey Bart of the Gnats, 37 K in 69 AB = .536.
Thanks.
Putting it all in context. https://twitter.com/KeithOlbermann/status/1527760985775296513?s=20&t=zMWh-jDASavir7jLgI6Kyw
Well, a little something out of nothing.
Yes, One run is both OK and not OK (if that makes sense).
Though he reached 101, it’s still sad he got DFA’d so early in the season. https://twitter.com/_andrewcarter/status/1527783555669151745?s=20&t=zMWh-jDASavir7jLgI6Kyw
If you think hitting is down, you are right. Take a look at this chart, part of which I went into last week:
https://www.baseball-almanac.com/hitting/hibavg4.shtml
He’s baaack (almost)! https://twitter.com/Jack_A_Harris/status/1527749142545580032?s=20&t=zMWh-jDASavir7jLgI6Kyw
Bring him up and it won’t be as painful waiting in long lines for Dodger Dogs when he is on the mound.

Can’t say that I will miss Harper’s appearance in Philly’s lineup after what he did in L.A. last week.
